Quiet Luxury: Why the Trend Took off and How to Recreate the Look

Since April, there have been an average of 490 articles written per month about the ‘Quiet Luxury’ trend. Sofia Richie is the muse behind the trend, and her huge increase in popularity means the star could be earning up to $34,662 per Instagram post

Quiet luxury has been the trend of 2023, kick-started by Sofia Richie’s French Riviera wedding at the start of summer, we’re still seeing icons like Kate Middleton sporting the trend now. Sofia Richie, daughter of Lionel Richie got hitched to Elliot Grainge and the internet went absolutely wild, sparking conversations around quiet luxury.

In various TikTok videos, older pictures of Sofia (dressing like a normal 21-year-old girl) are being compared to her current aesthetic which is being described as ‘quiet luxury’ or as one user dubbed ‘rich classy.’

These videos are also touching on the link between style and partners as users have noticed that her style when she was dating her ex Scott Disick (yes, Kourtney Kardashian’s ex-boyfriend) is considerably different to what it is now that she’s linked with her current husband Elliot Grainge.

Experts at River Island explained why the trend has been so popular: “Fashion has always mirrored politics and the current times, with the economic crisis in full swing it makes sense that customers want to spend their money wisely and buy timeless, investment pieces.”

Working with River Island, their experts also told YCB how to easily add the trend to your wardrobe: “Simplicity in style and colour. Classic, high-quality, versatile, minimalist designs that will not date. A quiet luxury outfit would comprise high-quality wearable pieces that work seamlessly with the rest of your wardrobe.”

“Quiet luxury is a low-key approach to dressing; a high-low pared back minimal aesthetic. High-quality, simple styles that look effortless and chic. Quiet luxury is essentially a wardrobe of styling essentials, where items can be worn in a multitude of ways and span many seasons – ensuring customers get a true sense of value for money.”

As we are creating our Autumn Winter wardrobes we are looking forward to upgrading our fashion with some of the below looks we love from River Island.
