How to Remove Coffee Stains From a Wipe Clean Tablecloth

Coffee spills can be a common occurrence. If you’re prone to them, you might benefit from investing in a wipe clean tablecloth.

These versatile tablecloths are designed for easy cleaning, but even they can fall victim to stubborn coffee stains. Whether it’s a morning mishap or an afternoon coffee break gone awry, don’t fret – we’ve got you covered.

In this guide, we’ll demonstrate how to effortlessly remove coffee stains from a tablecloth.

1. Act Promptly

The key to successfully eliminating coffee stains from your wipe clean table cloth is to act promptly. The longer you delay, the more the stain can become entrenched in the fabric.

Take a clean cloth or paper towel and blot the spill as soon as it occurs. Don’t rub the stain; too much pressure can push the coffee further into the cloth.

One of our favourite materials to use for sopping up a spill is microfibre – it lends to another easy clean, no trash, and a quicker dryer than your kitchen tea towel.

2. Assemble Your Supplies

Before delving into the stain removal process, gather the following supplies:

  • Washing-up liquid
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • A soft cloth or sponge
  • A bowl
  • Water

3. Create a Cleaning Solution

In a bowl, combine one tablespoon of washing-up liquid with one tablespoon of white vinegar. This solution is highly effective in eliminating coffee stains.

4. Apply the Solution

Dip your cloth or sponge into the solution and gently dab at the stain on your wipe-clean tablecloth. Start from the outer edge of the stained area and work your way towards the centre to prevent it from spreading.

Continue blotting until you observe the stain fading.

5. Rinse With Water

Once the coffee stain has noticeably lightened, rinse the affected area with cold water. This will help remove the cleaning solution and any remaining coffee residue.

6. Tackle Stubborn Stains With Baking Soda

For persistent coffee stains that refuse to yield, create a paste using baking soda and water. Apply this paste to the stain and leave it for 15-20 minutes.

Baking soda is an excellent natural abrasive that can help lift stubborn stains.

7. Gently Scrub

After allowing the baking soda paste to sit, employ a soft cloth or sponge to gently scrub the stained area. Be careful not to be too forceful, as you don’t want to damage the tablecloth’s surface.

Rinse with cold water once again.

8. Ensure Thorough Drying

Once you’ve successfully eliminated the coffee stain, ensure that the tablecloth is completely dry before using it again. Hanging it outside or placing it in direct sunlight can speed up the process.

9. Additional Tips

Stain Prevention

To avoid future coffee stains, consider using coasters or placemats beneath your coffee cups. Prevention is often the most effective solution.

Regular Cleaning

Even in the absence of visible stains, it’s a prudent practice to wipe down your wipe clean tablecloth regularly with a damp cloth to keep it looking its best.

Spot Test

Before employing any cleaning solution, always conduct a spot test on an inconspicuous area of the tablecloth to ensure it won’t cause discolouration or damage.

Final Thoughts

A coffee stain on your wipe-clean tablecloth need not be a permanent blemish. With the right tools and a touch of patience, you can easily remove coffee stains and keep your tablecloth looking fresh and pristine.

Remember to act swiftly, employ gentle cleaning solutions, and always ensure your tablecloth is completely dry before resuming its use.

Armed with these tips, you can enjoy your coffee without fretting over those inevitable spills.
