Can You Really Put A Price On True Love

Can you really put a price on true love?

They say you can’t buy love or happiness, but we say you can be bought a coffee by your date, and that’s pretty close. But are we being ripped off here in the UK?  Would it actually be cheaper to be treated like a princess in a far-away land? Quite possibly. We’re about to give you inside info that’ll allow you to present your other half with a list of reasons as to why it’s far more financially savvy for him to whisk you off to New York or Paris for date night this week.

You can send us a postcard to thank us.

London

Before we get too big for our stiletto boots and start demanding that our dates not only dress well and make us laugh but also fly us around the world, let’s start right here in London. We’ve done a bit of number crunching and reckon the cost of true love (and by true love we mean two cinema tickets, a meal for two including wine, a cocktail, a pint of lager and a five mile taxi journey) would set you back around £116.

Having said that, if you’re willing to eat before you leave the house and (shock horror!) have a sober conversation with your date, London has so many incredible free attractions, from The Natural History Museum to the Tate Modern. Plus, such dates will allow you to gauge whether your date’s level of intelligence is as amazing as his ability to pull off a navy blazer.

Paris

Starting to venture slightly further afield, Paris is of course the city of love according to all would-be-hopeless-romantics. Interestingly, you get more love for your money, as our average date comes out at €119, or just £90.25. That’s a saving of £26, plus it’ll feel more romantic because, well, it’s Paris!

If he’s romantic enough to take you to Paris, we suspect he’ll be the type to want to pull out all the stops so (given how much money he’s just saved on one part of the date…) there’s no harm in suggesting the two of you enjoy a luxurious dinner at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant for just €120 (£91) each!

Geneva

If he suggests a date in Geneva, you’ll know your instincts were right when you thought he looked moneyed as you swiped right on Tinder. The cost of true love on the Swiss / French border is a huge £169.99 – we’re looking at £96 just for the meal. Of course the food is likely to be absolutely exquisite, and we can’t deny that the way to our hearts is through our stomachs, so it’s totally worth the extra dough!

New York

The cost of true love in the Big Apple is around the same as it is in London – £119.42. So if he was going to take you out to the cinema and for dinner in London anyway, he may as well just take you to New York instead, right? A real haven for movie buffs, the two of you can stroll round Central Park like the lovebirds in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or visit the restaurant where Harry Met Sally for free!

Sydney

Sydney is where you’re going to get the most love for your money, with a date coming in at the equivalent of just £102.79. Sure, the plane journey there might cost a little more, but once you’re there the two of you will be able to afford more cocktails, which will quickly remedy any pain felt from parting with cash for the journey. Plus, you can go to the beach for free; nothing says romance like sitting together on the warm sand watching the sun set over the ocean.

So, pack your bags and send your money abroad – it’ll be worth so much more there: more cocktails, more memories, more love!
