Detour

If you enjoy exploring new cities, there’s nothing better than Detour. This app offers hour-long walking expeditions, designed to give you the chance to explore major cities like London and Edinburgh and take in some history in the process. You’ll never have to board a tourist bus again! The app can also sync with your friend’s mobile phones so that you can explore as a group.

Google Santa Tracker

Let’s face it: we all love Santa Claus. Google’s annual Santa Tracker is a treat for the whole family, and now you can enjoy it on your smartphone. Available for both Android and iOS, the app offers games with elves, Google Cardboard integration and live Santa tracking on December 24. Festive!

Santander Cycles

The chances are that you’ve already heard about Santander Cycles, London’s bike-sharing scheme to use across the capital. Introduced by Boris Johnson, the self-service scheme is ideal for short journeys to work, through the park or across the city to meet friends – and it only costs £2 a day. The corresponding Santander Cycles app can help you search nearby stations to pick up a bike, and it allows you to check availability so you won’t waste a journey. It even offers a route planner with easy, moderate and fast options to help you get where you need to be.

ChargeApp

Ensuring that your phone has enough charge can be difficult, but with ChargeApp, you can easily locate your nearest charging station and power up your device. Whether you are low on battery, or you just want to be able to stream music and TV shows on your journey, this app has you covered. It was awarded first place for Best New Mobile Technology in 2015, and it’s clear to see why!

Shut Up: Block Web Comments

Scrolling through the comments section of your favourite news website can be infuriating. Not only do people have different opinions to yours, but the comments sections are often filled with hatred, anger and racism. With the Shut Up app, you can automatically block all comments on websites, allowing you to spend more time reading the news and less time getting wound up in the drama. This Safari extension is available for iOS devices, but similarly-named add-ons can be found on Google Play.

Great Little Place

Sick of spending your time in the same chain cafes and restaurants wherever you go? We get it – it’s easier and more convenient to go somewhere you know, rather than risk a dodgy coffee in the local joint. With the Great Little Place app, you can find quality bars, coffee shops and restaurants that have been approved by locals, giving you a chance to try something new.

There you have it – six of our favourite apps for November. Which one is your favourite? Let us know in the comments section below.
