Secret’s out: The angels are coming to town!
All eyes will be on the UK later this year as it’s been announced that the biggest event in the fashion show calendar will be happening in London. Christmas will come early as Victoria’s Secret models assemble, feathered wings and diamonds in tow, at Earls Court on December 2nd for the infamous annual show.
The announcement, made last week at the brand’s Bond Street flagship store, was met with gasps of both surprise and delight, and here at Your Coffee Break we were just as excited to hear the news. Victoria’s Secret Angels Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel joined CMO Ed Razek to reveal that the UK’s capital was the ‘natural choice’ of host city. The Angels even gave a subtle nod to the Union Jack as Adriana showcased her incredible figure in a red peplum dress with blue embellishment, whilst Candice took care of the white in an off the shoulder body con number.
The pink carpet has previously been laid out for the international catwalk phenomenon in Cannes, LA and New York, but never in a British city. Ed Razek candidly revealed that ‘the brand has been wanting to show in London since 1998…[but] no one knew who we were!’ It seems that since then the heavens have smiled upon the Victoria’s Secret Angels as a sixth UK store opened last year, leaving us Brits well and truly enchanted by their signature sultry lingerie.
There’s no rest for the wickedly beautiful as Razek explained that planning for the London show began the day after the last show: ‘The best time to think about what to do next year is immediately after you finish the show because you see what kind of things you want to do’. So what will they do? Last year’s New York show had a distinctly British feel, with Taylor Swift dressing in full Union Jack regalia for her performance. Perhaps 2013 was just a warm up for an even more elaborate and eccentric British theme in London. Bets are already on that Brit Pop sensation One Direction will perform. Either way we’re sure Victoria’s Secret model Cara Delevigne will manage to fix a FROW invite for close friend Harry Styles.
What is certain, however, is that the London show will be the brand’s biggest ever, as the audience size is being tripled from 1000 to 3000. Plus, with a strict black tie dress code this year that’s three times the gorgeous gowns for us to swoon over!
Whilst we probably won’t be adding the Victoria’s Secret million dollar Fantasy Bra to our collection any time soon it’s great to see a brand pushing the boundaries of lingerie. We love the slightly more practical femininity of the Strappy Back Unlined Plunge Bra and the Dream Angels Long Line Push Up Demi Bra, and we can’t wait to see what new divine creations grace the catwalk at Earls Court in December.
