Biblical and festive baby boys: Joseph, Nicholas and Matthew

When it comes to Christmas baby names this year it’s all about festive and biblical tradition according to a new poll today, which reveals the top 10 Christmas baby names chosen by parents this winter. The new baby names survey, which quizzed many hundreds of UK parents on their choice of baby name, was commissioned by Emma’s Diary, the essential support resource for mums to be and new parents.

Winter festive and floral inspiration for girls: In-keeping with the traditional theme of Christmas, the most popular baby names for the festive season are Holly, Ivy and Noelle. With a high proportion of parents choosing one of these three names, the survey highlights the careful thought and planning that still goes into selecting the perfect baby name.

The top name for baby girls this Christmas is Ivy followed by the name Holly. Noelle was voted as the third top girls name for parents this festive season. For boys, there is a real biblical and festive influence with Joseph being the most popular boys name, followed by Nicholas and then Matthew.

For baby girls, there is a definite winter floral theme emerging this year as well as on-trend names such as Eva and those inspired by popular Disney princesses such as Elsa, which also made the top 10.

Faye Mingo, Marketing Director at Emma’s Diary commented: “As always, choosing the right name is an important decision for any parent and this year we can see that the season has had a definite impact on the choice of names with influences of the traditional and also trending names for this year.”
