Lady it Up!

I am probably not the first person to ever say this but..will it EVER stop raining in London? I should have expected this really – although my friends are telling me that the current onslaught of perma-rain is even excessive for London. But I will put my lamenting aside for five seconds to admit that sometimes coming up with alternatives for the weather can be fun.

Lately, I am really into this very feminine idea of socks with open footwear. Not in the awful way that some men insist on wearing socks with horrifying plastic shower shoes out of the house – but in the gorgeous, girly way we used to wear lace top socks with our ballet flats when we were five years old sort of way. Plus it keeps the toesies warm in the damp London air. Now, it’s no secret that my sartorial self normally isn’t prone to this. I am not exactly one to embrace things frilly and feminine with open arms but there is something totally cool about taking one of springs ultra-femme trends and adding some bad-ass to it. Like taking a pair of gorgeous, lace socks and toughening it up with some leather shorts. How about a ladylike silhouette paired with a military jacket. Or sweeten up your sporty look with embellished socks and sky high heels. Mulberry did it perfectly in their SS12 show and my recent discovery of the awesomeness of cult Italian hosiery label Oroblu (shop them here. NOW) makes it easy to add some la-la-lady to my wardrobe. Get the look here:
