Say Goodbye to Neutrals, This Season is All About Butter Yellow

How to style THE TikTok approved hue for Spring

Step aside neutrals, there’s a new tone in town that celebrities, influencers and social media can’t get enough of…

Butter yellow.

Seen on style casters such as Matilda Djerf, Jennifer Lawrence and Rhianna and garnering thousands of clips on TikTok, it’s time to swap out your creams, greys and beiges for this bright yet subdued tone that will please minimalists and maximalists this season.

Expert commentary from SilkFred’s Head Stylist, Megan Watkins, on the Butter Yellow trend

Megan reveals: “As we transition into a new season, adding this soft, indulgent colour into your everyday outfits is a great way to update and elevate your fashion game. Guaranteed to please maximalists and minimalists alike, butter yellow will add some much needed sunshine into your everyday wardrobe.”

“The reason why this shade works so well is because, whilst being a definitive colour, is still technically a neutral. Whilst this tone adheres to current vibrant trends like pops of colour, it’s also incredibly versatile – pairing fantastically with wardrobe staples like denim and white.”

“We’ve also seen butter yellow in prominent beauty trends too. Just this month, Rhianna debuted a new butter-themed hairstyle, complete with thick bangs and shoulder-length cut and as the seasons transition, many of us are swapping out classic red for butter yellow as our manicure of choice.”

Expert tips on how to style Butter Yellow:

Megan recommends: “As wedding season ramps up, a butter yellow wedding guest outfit should be at the top of all of our wish lists. This girly hue will look great with feminine silhouettes – think full skirts, silky slip dresses and corset-inspired styles. These will look great with white shoes and a matching manicure. Alternatively, a butter yellow pinstripe two-piece suit matched with striking gold jewellery is a great choice if you’re not a fan of dresses.”

“If you’re looking for a less formal butter yellow outfit, I would experiment with dresses in trending prints such as gingham or abstract florals for that ultimate springtime vibe.”

“This soft hue will also work well with soft fabrics. Think fluffy cropped cardigans, cashmere jumpers to drape over your shoulders and ribbed tees, which will make a great base for any spring outfit.”

“In order to incorporate more butter yellow into your everyday outfits, just swap out your usual neutrals for this sunshine-inspired shade. It also pairs well with neutrals such as khaki and cream, so you can also use accessories to brighten up these outfits. A crossbody yellow bag or slingbacks in this shade is a great way to get this indulgent colour into your wardrobe.”
