Katie Holmes is the Pandemic’s Style Icon

Though the coronavirus pandemic stopped a lot of things dead in their tracks, this virus was not going to slow down Katie Holmes from being a fashion icon.

The actress has always had a unique sense of style and with her tall, swanlike figure she has been a darling of many designers including her pal Zac Posen and Carolina Herrera. But it wasn’t until 2019 that she really hit her stride when she stepped out in that cashmere bra to hail a cab. It was a moment for fashion, it was a moment for women and perhaps even a moment for New York.

She was revered for her boldness for being one of the first to think “A bra that feels like a sweater? I’ll take it!” And she just kept going strong with her mix of high low dressing. Holmes has never been afraid to be casual when she goes out. You may remember her paint adorned sweat pants from last year or the winter ensemble she wore with then-beau Jamie Foxx on a cold that was the perfect mix of Grey Gardens and denim chic.

Then the pandemic hit and like so many people, Holmes went into hiding except for the occasional photo of her showing off her tie-dying skills. But she came back to her home in New York. And she went outside all the time with her mask and all. And though she always looked great she was still practical, often wearing birkenstocks. She even managed to turn a guy’s head in those sandals which is an art in itself.

But it is her mix of high low dressing that is really what makes Katie unique. She loves a great pair of jeans or baggy pants with a beautiful blouse or tank top. Sometimes she opts for a dress (often with her daughter Suri who is very much a dress girl.)

However, she really hit her stride when she started her romance with the restauranteur Emilio Vitolo, Jr. (because every outfit looks better when you are making out with someone on a street corner.) Somehow she even elevated a look of sweatpants with a blazer (the essential Zoom call ensemble.)

They made quite the pair as they rode around the city on Citibikes in tailored coats and another time she wore sweat pant-like pants with a trendy black cutout sweater.

Holmes doesn’t sacrifice fashion for comfort when she is running around her city and we appreciate her for that (she is also always wearing her mask which is now available.) She is always ready to jump on a bike or make out on a park bench with her boy toy.
