5 Hacks That Can Get Your Airbnb Deals Even Lower This Summer

A travel deals expert reveals five game-changing hacks to help you score unbeatable Airbnb deals this summer

With summer well and truly here, travellers are gearing up for their much-awaited vacations.

Airbnb has become a go-to platform for many, offering a unique and affordable way to experience new destinations like a local. However, during peak travel seasons, finding budget-friendly accommodations can be a challenge.

That’s where these insider hacks come into play.

“Airbnb pricing is influenced by various factors, including location, demand, and seasonality,” explains Jason Higgs, Senior Deals Strategist at Bountii. “During the summer months, rates tend to skyrocket, especially in popular tourist destinations.”

But fear not.

With these five hacks, you can outsmart the system and score unbeatable Airbnb deals.

Jason’s Hack #1. Be Flexible with Your Dates

Flexibility is the key consideration when you want to snag the best deals.

Jason recommends searching for stays during the shoulder season, just before or after the peak summer months. “Rates can be significantly lower, and you’ll avoid the crowds,” Jason says.

One traveller recommends having flexible dates to get a good Airbnb deal.

“Eager to travel but not dead set on the dates? Perfect. You can save big on airfare by being flexible about when you go,” they say. “If you’re convinced you need a Caribbean escape, but don’t mind when, search flights to Caribbean destinations with a broad timeframe to find the lowest airfare.”

Jason’s Hack #2. Consider Off-the-Beaten-Path Locations

While popular tourist hotspots may be tempting, Jason suggests exploring lesser-known destinations.

“Smaller towns and suburbs often offer more affordable options, and you’ll get an authentic local experience,” he advises.

One travel enthusiast agrees.

“There is something uniquely rewarding about venturing off the beaten path to less popular tourist destinations. These hidden gems often hold unexpected delights and provide benefits that more crowded spots cannot match,” he says.

“Less foot traffic means you can explore at your own pace, take unobstructed photos, and have a more relaxed experience. With fewer tourists, you’re more likely to encounter local culture in its most authentic form, from traditional cuisines to customary practices,” he adds. “These destinations often have lower prices for accommodations, attractions, and services due to the smaller number of visitors.”

Jason’s Hack #3. Book Early (Or Last Minute)

Timing is everything when it comes to Airbnb deals.

Jason recommends booking your stay at least six months in advance or, alternatively, taking advantage of last-minute cancellations.

“Hosts are often willing to offer steep discounts to fill their vacancies,” he explains.

“Hotels, cruise and airlines love it when guests book early, so they’ll often come up with incentives that reward anyone who plans ahead,” one insurance company says. “For example, booking a resort package early can result in extra onsite and dining credits, category upgrades, free nights and other great offers.”

Jason’s Hack #4. Negotiate Like a Pro

Don’t be afraid to negotiate with hosts, especially if you’re booking for an extended stay or during the off-season.

“Many hosts are generally open to discussing discounts or special offers,” says Jason. “It never hurts to ask.”

“When you book for seven nights or more, a weekly discount may be applied to your total. If you book for 28 nights or more, a monthly discount may be applied instead,” one traveller says. “Sometimes the weekly or monthly discount that is applied is worth booking a couple extra days because it can drastically bring the price down.”

Jason’s Hack #5. Leverage Discounts and Promotions

Keep an eye out for Airbnb’s periodic discounts and promotions, which can save you a significant amount of money.

Jason also suggests signing up for loyalty programs and using cashback apps or credit card rewards to maximise your savings.

“It’s reasonable to assume most Airbnb hosts would entertain the idea of giving a discounted rate for their vacation property rather than letting it sit empty on the weekend,” one writer says. “However, it really depends on the type of host you’re dealing with and how you approach the subject. A last-minute discount hack can work but should always be handled delicately and politely.”

As you plan your summer adventures, remember Jason’s parting words: “With a little creativity and savvy, you can unlock incredible Airbnb deals and create unforgettable memories without breaking the bank.”
