Things to Try When You Need a Moment to Yourself

Life is filled with moments when you just need to get away for a little while. Whether you are stressed out, overwhelmed, tired, or working through a problem, sometimes the best way to deal with something is by changing your perspective. Continue reading to learn easy-to-incorporate ways to give yourself a moment of respite when you need it most.

Go Outside

One of the best ways to reset quickly is by going outside. Go for a walk, breathe in the fresh air,  or enjoy something from Geek Vape to help you relax. Put on your favourite podcast or some mood-boosting music while you take in your surroundings. From an urban setting where you can people-watch to a lush green space where animal encounters abound, there is always something outside to help redirect your thoughts for a little while.

Step Away

If you find yourself in a stressful situation, sometimes the best course of action is to excuse yourself and step away or take a break. This tactic does not mean you are capitulating, agreeing, or disagreeing. It is simply a move you should make to give yourself the opportunity to regroup and think about the stressor without being directly confronted by it. By affording yourself ample space to focus on your feelings and needs, you will be better equipped to regroup and address any problems when you step back into the situation.

Meditate

If you have not yet tried the practice of meditation, consider adding it to your repertoire of relaxation methods. It requires nothing in terms of equipment or supplies, only a willingness to be present in the moment. The concept of meditation involves quieting your mind and putting any taskers or to-dos aside during the meditation process. Sit in a comfortable place and position, turn off any distractions, close your eyes, and focus on where you are. Feel your chest rising and falling with each breath. A pro tip is to set a soothing, instead of jarring, alarm for when you want your meditation session to end so you are not startled out of the calm state you have achieved.

Set a Timer

When you feel the need to regroup and reframe a situation but are unable to take a large break or leave the space, try setting a timer for five minutes. Start by silencing your phone. Next, get into a comfortable position. Now start the five-minute timer and close your eyes. You do not need to practice meditation or complicated breathing patterns. Simply do nothing for five minutes. When the timer goes off, you can resume your work and go about your day.

When you need to take a break from everything going on in your life due to stress, being overworked, or wanting to find your inner peace and balance, implement one of these quick and easy strategies to give yourself a momentary reset. By doing so, you can approach any issue with a clear head and calm mind.
