4 Ways to Help the Environment and Your Wallet

Thankfully, more and more people are becoming environmentally aware and want to make changes to their lifestyles and homes so that they can do their bit for the environment. If this sounds like you, you might be wondering what kinds of changes you can make to your home to be more energy efficient and reduce your carbon footprint. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve put together a list of improvements you can consider to become more environmentally friendly.

Change your lighting

A quick, easy and cheap way of becoming more environmentally friendly at home is by changing the lighting in your home. If you haven’t already, replace all of your light bulbs with environmentally friendly alternatives. You should also consider installing dimmer switches so that you can choose the level of light that you need, saving you even more money too! Not only that, dimmer switches are a great way of making your home feel cosier. Now, even if you do need to keep a light on outside of your bedroom you can rest assured that you’re minimising your carbon footprint as much as possible.

Replace your windows

Now is as good of a time as any to consider replacing your windows, especially if they’ve never been replaced before. Double glazing can help you keep heat in your home for longer, as well as keep it cool, meaning that you’ll spend much less money heating and cooling your home. If you’ve recently had your windows done but have a few that could do with being upgraded, you should look into glass replacement window panes instead. Essentially, any area of your home that might let air escape or let air in could be costing you more, and the environment too.

Get rid of harmful products

So many people use products that are really bad for the environment and don’t even realise it! Many of the favourite cleaning and beauty products are guilty of this! Consider switching to eco-friendly home and beauty products to help make a positive change to the environment. You’ll notice that making this switch will bring other improvements into your life too, such as the effectiveness of the products and the amount of money you’re saving in the process.

Invest in solar panels

Lots of people are turning to solar panels these days, and with good reason too! And, while they’re quite the investment to begin with, they will eventually pay for themselves. Not only can you save money on your electricity bill, but you’re also using less valuable energy, meaning you’re being much more environmentally friendly. What’s also great is any energy that you generate and don’t use, you can sell it back to the grid. You may even find that your electricity bill during the summer months is nonexistent!

This list is far from exhaustive, but it’s a great place to start if you want to become more environmentally conscious in your home. Consider these ideas and continue to find new ways to give back to our beautiful planet!
