Top Trends And Highlights From London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

Top trends and highlights from London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

The fashion crew have packed up and skipped continents, moving on from New York Fashion Week and heading over the Atlantic to our very own London.

Home to the highly anticipated shows of Burberry, J.W. Anderson, Tophop and Christopher Kane, London Fashion Week didn’t disappoint with its front-row favourites (Alexa, Sienna, Daisy and co.) and the ultimate edit of signature Brit Girl style.

So, without further ado, here are the top trends straight off the London catwalks. We’re half way there…

Floral fever

Florals to Brits are like stripes to the French… A wardrobe essential. Mary Katrantzou featured giddy flower arrangements; Preen was all angular, patchwork prints; Matthew Williamson took us to a pretty garden party; and Christopher Kane stood out from the rest with his scientific sketches of flower heads and petal cutouts.

A lace story

Burberry Prorsum was, without a doubt, the most buzzed about show of London Fashion Week. Christopher Bailey sent out a beautifully feminine collection of ladylike lace dresses and pencil skirts, topped with cashmere cardigans and the iconic trench. Too saccharine-sweet for you? Take a cue from John Rocha and Tom Ford who went grunge-goth with cobwebs and black lace.

Summer sorbet

The colours for the season are as pretty as pastels can be. We loved the blush-toned shades smudged on lips and cheeks to match the looks at J.W. Anderson and Mulberry, while Peter Pilotto and Temperley had us reaching for the cocktails with their cool, mojito-green pieces. Keep an eye out for soft cornflower blues and heavenly lavenders too.

Sheer genius

One of our favourite trends gets a much-needed makeover this season with the help of plastic appliques, printed slips and shiny chiffons. Antonio Berardi, Jonathan Saunders and Richard Nicoll nailed the trend, while Cara Deleveingne closing the Burberry Prorsum show in a plastic and gemstone raincoat was a look that will go down in fashion history.
