From Marketing Communications Director to business owner: meet Helen Davies

Helen Davies

When Helen Davies’ baby twins arrived prematurely at just 29 weeks and their tiny lives hung in the balance in Hull’s Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit for 10 weeks, it made the owner of one of Yorkshire’s most successful Marketing agencies completely re-evaluate her life.

Helen, 41 had led a high flying career as a Marketing Director for a number of major high street brands. Previously Marketing Director for Dixon Motors PLC and the Royal Bank of Scotland Car Division, she founded and established one of Hull’s most successful and fast-paced marketing agencies, Fred.

But the experience of having twins Anya and Xavier (2), who joined Helen, husband Jason and sibling Zac (7) in such dramatic circumstances, led Helen to completely change her outlook on life – leading to some huge, life changing decisions.

In gratitude to the support she had received from Hull’s NICU unit she threw herself into fundraising £52,000 for the hospital – covering the cost of a new incubator – which won her The Pride of East Yorkshire Award. She also sold her share of the agency she helped build.

Then, after 18 months research and planning, Helen launched a business inspired by her experience and forged from the importance of cherishing and celebrating precious moments from everyday life.

The Lovely Keepsake Company is a UK first. It is an online store devoted to helping customers preserve and enjoy moments and memories from celebrations, milestones and special events – all through life.

Inspired by the babies experience in NICU being given tiny oxygen masks as keepsakes by nurses, The Lovely Keepsake Company was born out of a sincere understanding of the important role occasions, experiences, friends and family play in shaping our lives and a creative and innovative approach to cherishing memories of those times together.

From the birth of a baby, milestone events all through life and ultimately to the passing of a loved one, Helen’s new mission through the company is to find new and inspiring ways to remind people of those special times.

Some items are sourced from distributors but many are designed by Helen and hand crafted by a team of talented artists, seamstresses and craftsmen from East Yorkshire. Some of the more unusual items include the uniquely created Milestone Height Chart, also the Babygro/School Uniform Bears, Memory Cushions, Fingerprint Art and Hand-drawn Illustrations of your favourite locations, houses or pubs!
