Each summer, bandwagons from all areas arrive for everyone to hop on. Whether that’s the latest fashion trend, a new hairstyle, or exercise craze (the crossfit year didn’t do it for me), there’s always a new update that comes hand-in-hand with the nation’s favourite season. Thanks to the lack of shops, hairdressers and gyms open, this year is all about being up to date with makeup.
Laminated Eyebrows
By now, we have (hopefully) managed to redeem our eyebrows from the trauma they endured until the day that Cara Delevigne stepped on the scene in 2016. Skinny eyebrows are a distant memory at this point, and this summer has given us a mission to go one step further. The thick brow trend that we’ve become accustomed to has been temporarily moved to the side to make way for the ‘laminated brow’. As you can imagine, mastering this look requires significantly more effort and skill than colouring in the gaps with a brown pencil. Brands such as TwoFaced, Charlotte Tilbury and Dior have released luxurious lip-plumping glosses that are the perfect option if you want to maximize your lips without actual lip-fillers. Plus, a thick lipstick can be a bit heavy on those warmer days, so finish your summer outfit with a light, sheer shine on the lips.
Natural Skin
As we are all well aware, it’s been a while since we’ve had an occasion to wear our Sunday best. The same goes for our Saturday night face. Due to the fact that everyone knows you’re not actually going anywhere, wearing a full face of makeup now seems slightly excessive. Therefore, the foundation trend we predict for this summer is no foundation at all. It’s no surprise that the vast majority of self-tanning brands are now coming out with ranges of self-tanning face drops. These face drops add some colour to the face whilst removing the need to aggressively blend your face into your neck with a stubbly brush. For some light coverage, top your skin off with a CC cream to achieve that natural summer glow. Any heavy foundations and contour palettes should be fitting firmly in the drawer until those colder months begin to creep in again.
In conclusion, the overall look we predict to take reign over this summer is that of a natural one. Think less is more. No more thick flicks, shimmery lids, harsh contouring and blinding highlight. Opt for a more realistic look with fluffy eyebrows, a light glossy lip and skin that doesn’t appear to be melting off your face.
