The TikTok Beauty Trends Worth Trying this Summer

According to Google Trend Data, the search term summer beauty trends has received a 215.78% uplift in the past month. Here, the beauty experts at Contactlenses.co.uk have gathered the TikTok beauty trends worth trying this summer, as well as the ones to avoid. From celebrity favourites to trends with billions of views, here’s what you can expect to see more of in the summer months…

Ones To Adopt

Glazed Doughnut Nails

Hailey Bieber unintentionally coined the glazed doughnut nail trend. Luckily, this is a simple one to adopt – simply paint your nails with a nude polish and top with a sheer, pearlescent coat. The result? Nails that look like they’ve been glazed with frosting. Delicious!

Why should you try this? Natural, dewy makeup looks are very “in” for 2023 – it was only a matter of time until nail art caught up. These nails seamlessly transition from day to night, making them perfect for a summer trip.

Sleek Siren Eyes

The Siren Eyes trend is all about creating a dramatic, cat-eye makeup look. It’s like the smoky eye but more intense, with darker shades around the eye and an upward flick at the corners. To try it yourself, start with a blend of eyeshadow and eyeliner, build up darker shades, and finish with a sharp eyeliner for a striking effect.

Why should you try this? If you’re used to more traditional makeup styles, this is one of the easiest ways to try something bold and different. With thousands of TikTok tutorials ready and waiting, you’ll be a pro in no time.

The Wednesday Addams

While summer is usually about showcasing your colourful outfits, you can expect to see a lot more monochrome this year. The Wednesday Addams trend, fuelled by Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of the character in the Netflix series, has inspired beauty enthusiasts to match her captivating goth glamour. Some even go as far as wearing coloured contact lenses to match the vibe.

Why should you try this? Embracing this trend gives you an opportunity to experiment with merging gothic aesthetics and modern glamour. It’s time to express a different side of your personality!

Glitz In Glitter Eyeshadow

The glitter cut crease trend is an ethereal, starry-eyed style that has gained over 11 million views on TikTok. This look combines matte eyeshadows and liners with shimmering counterparts, featuring a glitter eyeliner arch along the crease. If you need more beauty upgrades, then look no further than services like HIFU Brisbane.

Why should you try this? The glittery, starry-eyed aesthetic is bound to stand out in the crowd, making it perfect for a summer festival. Apply it with a strong primer, and you’ll be good to go!

Ones To Avoid

Cutting Your Eyelashes

Yes – you read that right! This trend involves trimming your natural eyelashes with a pair of scissors. According to TikTokers, doing so will make them grow back longer. Worth it? Absolutely not.

Why should you avoid this? Eyelashes take about 90 days to grow, so if you cut them, you will have to wait nearly three months for them to grow back. Your lashes will also feel sharp if you cut them, which can irritate your eyes.

Baby Oil Tan

This trend involves combining baby oil and bronzer to create fake tan at home. While this might look good in the moment, it is not worth the effort.

Why should you avoid this? Sunbathing after covering yourself in baby oil will fry your skin, increasing your chances of burning and putting you at risk of skin cancer.

Sun Cream Contour

If you thought the above two trends were crazy, you’ve seen nothing yet! The sun cream contour trend involves applying sunscreen on specific parts of your face, leaving the rest exposed to tan. The idea behind this is to create a “contour” effect once you catch the sun.

Why should you avoid this? Leaving the skin unprotected from harmful UV rays can lead to skin damage, premature ageing, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Stick with makeup designed for contouring – it has the same effects, and you can wipe it off if it goes wrong!

Face Taping

The face taping trend, deemed as a botox “hack”, involves taping certain areas of your face overnight to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the morning. As always, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.

Why should you avoid this? Most tapes people use for this trend are not meant to be used on the skin, causing irritation, breakouts, and ripped skin. Ouch! There’s also no scientific evidence to confirm this works, so it really isn’t worth the risk.
