Here’s How to Get 2022’s Trending Spring Hair Colour — ‘Expensive Blonde’

‘Expensive blonde’ is tipped to be the biggest hair colour trend this spring – with Google searches for the term having skyrocketed by 194%.

Recently sported by the likes of Chrishell Stause and Hassie Harrison, expensive blonde is coined as a warm shade of blonde that incorporates fewer shadows in the hair as opposed to just one set colour.

Keen to get on this hair coloring trend? Nick Drewe, the trends expert at WeThrift, has shared how to go expensive blonde the right way.

1. Get advice from your hairstylist

Whether you’re going from jet-black to expensive blonde, or you’re already a blonde wanting to hop on this stylish trend, it’s always best to seek the advice of your stylist before making any drastic decisions.

When discussing your requirements, make it clear to your stylist the particular style you’re looking for, and ask what shades they would recommend. When it comes to expensive blonde hair, there are a variety of shades to choose from — such as butterscotch, golden, honey, and platinum. After you have made your decision, suggest how you would like the shades to be incorporated into your hair. The trick to perfecting the expensive blonde look is to have your shades scattered — the more subtle, the better!

2. Have a haircut beforehand

Before you even begin the colouring process at a hair salon, tell your stylist of any fringes and inches you want cutting off. After all, you don’t want the risk of cutting off lightened sections of your hair that your stylist probably spent hours working on.

Having your haircut beforehand will allow your stylist to more effectively map out where they should integrate your new colours. As well as this, root regrowth will be more visible if you have a fringe, so you may want to cut off your fringe before making a big colour change.

3. Pay attention to your makeup and wardrobe

You can’t spell expensive blonde with just your hair alone — your makeup and wardrobe choices need to convey you mean business, too.

Since spring is in the air, opt for light makeup colours with a beige, pink, or peach hue. These, paired with a neutral-coloured lipstick, would be a perfect choice. When it comes to your wardrobe, shades of red, brown, mustard, pink, and blue — as well as the classic black and white – are some of the best colours that suit even the most expensive of blondes.

4. Enjoy the process

When it comes to rocking the expensive blonde look, don’t expect to see results straight away. While going from darker strands to the blonde you desire is possible to do in one session, this may have adverse effects on the health of your hair.

With this in mind, just sit back and let your stylist take you on a journey. A key thing is to ask your stylist whether they can recommend a hair transition plan. If you’re new to the blonde train, schedule a series of appointments with your stylist to gradually get you to that shade of blonde you desire. In order to let your hair grow and maintain strength, make sure each appointment is around two weeks apart.

5. Make sure you use the right products for upkeep

The expensive blond hair trend is all about hair that is high in energy, dimension, and detail. That said — be sure to use the right products that will allow your hair to thrive. From using a good blonde shampoo, a purple shampoo for brassiness, and being careful with oils, your new locks need to have the best hair care regime. As everyone’s hair is different, consult your stylist for any products they can recommend.

As well as this, simple lifestyle changes such as washing your hair less, rinsing it with cold water, and using a hair heat protectant will enable those locks to shine.
