Coastal Jewellery Evolves Into Layered Summer Styling for 2026

April 21, 2026

From starfish charms to beaded stacks and cord necklaces, summer jewellery becomes bigger, bolder and more expressive

Last year, we all dipped our toes into the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic, but for Spring/Summer 2026, coastal jewellery is officially growing up and catching a new wave. It’s no longer just about those literal, one-note seaside charms; the trend is evolving into something far more layered, textured, and unapologetically expressive. Rather than reaching for a standalone shell necklace or a solitary starfish charm and calling it a day, the aesthetic is shifting towards mixed-material jewellery styling, combining beads, pearls, cords and ocean-inspired motifs within stacked, textured compositions.

It’s about storytelling on your skin. Imagine mixing sun-drenched cord chokers with fine-link chains, or stacking rings that feature oceanic textures alongside pops of sea-glass seafoam and deep turquoise. This season, you aren’t just wearing a souvenir; you’re wearing a sophisticated, salt-crusted vibe that feels as much high-fashion runway as it does hidden cove in Ibiza. The goal is to look like you’ve spent the last decade collecting treasures from the world’s most glamorous beaches and artfully piled them on all at once.

A shift towards layered summer jewellery

Across SS26 runways, jewellery is being styled in multiples rather than single focal pieces. At Ralph Lauren, layered cord necklaces featuring pearls and silver pendants reinforced the necklace stack as a key summer styling direction. The result is a more relaxed, mixed-texture approach where jewellery is built rather than worn as individual statement pieces. Search behaviour reflects this shift with “Necklace stack” up 100% year-on-year!

Beads lead the next evolution of coastal jewellery

One of the strongest developments this season is the return of beaded jewellery, reinterpreted through a more elevated lens. Once associated with childhood craft, beaded necklaces are being reworked as fashion-led accessories. Candy-coloured and multi-strand designs are now being styled with tailoring, crisp white tees and summer dresses, balancing nostalgia with polish.

Pearls, shells and organic forms remain central

Alongside beads, core coastal materials continue to evolve into more directional styling pieces, such as freshwater pearl jewellery, sea shell jewellery and pearl necklaces.

Rather than being worn in isolation, these elements are now incorporated into layered compositions alongside chains, cords and sculptural pendants. Shell motifs, including conch-inspired rings and oceanic charms, are also appearing in more elevated interpretations across designer runways including Balmain.

Cord necklaces and organic textures define SS26

Another key shift for SS26 is the return of cord-based jewellery styling.

Leather and fabric cords are being styled with clustered pendants and mixed materials, creating a more relaxed, Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic. Organic resin shapes and irregular textures further reinforce the move towards tactile, natural finishes.

The overall direction for SS26 coastal jewellery is less about individual motifs and more about composition. Layering, contrast and texture define the look, with jewellery becoming a key styling tool in summer dressing.
