3 Key Summer Trends for 2025

3 Key Summer Trends for 2025

May 8, 2025

When it comes to building a wardrobe that truly lasts, not all trends are created equal. While TikTok-fuelled aesthetics come and go faster than a British summer, there are certain styles that stand the test of time, and according to online fashion destination SilkFred CEO and Co-Founder Emma Watkinson, those are the trends worth investing in for Summer 2025.

Emma, who has led SilkFred to become one of the UK’s most popular online fashion destinations for independent brands, shares her top three SS25 trends with YCB, set to strike the perfect balance between style and staying power.

1. Cowgirl Core – with a Classic Twist

Yes, cowgirl core is having a major moment (Cowboy Carter tour we see you), but Western-inspired fashion is far from new.

According to Emma: “Cowboy boots and denim staples resurface every few years. They’re a great example of a trend that’s cyclical rather than fleeting. Think quality leather boots, relaxed denim shirts, and fringing used sparingly. These are pieces you can reinvent season after season.”

Rather than going full rodeo, Emma recommends picking one Western piece and pairing it with modern basics for a fresh but wearable look.

2. Metallic Magic – But Make It Minimal

From soft silvers to muted golds, metallics are dominating SS25 runways – but in a much more wearable way.

Emma says: “This season, metallics aren’t about full-on sequins or partywear – it’s about subtle shimmer. A silver or gold satin slip skirt or a pair of hardware-inspired belt can elevate an outfit without looking over the top. These pieces slot into your wardrobe easily and work across seasons.”

3. Sheer Layers – Styled for Longevity

Sheer fabrics aren’t just for occasionwear anymore. From tulle skirts to lightweight mesh layers, transparency is trending in an elegant, wearable way.

Emma explains: “If you invest in versatile sheer pieces like an overlay dress or a mesh top, you can layer them throughout the year. Think a sheer midi dress over denim in summer, or layered with a turtleneck and boots in winter. It’s about styling smart, not seasonal.”

A Note on “Micro-Trends”

Emma also advises caution when it comes to buying into fast, viral trends: “Anything that’s tied too closely to one viral moment – whether it’s ‘tomato girl summer’ or ‘office siren’ – tends to date really quickly. At SilkFred, we encourage our customers to shop styles they can love for longer, not just for a flash-in-the-pan trend cycle.”

Whether you’re investing in a perfect pair of cowboy boots or a floaty sheer dress, Emma’s advice is clear: look for quality, versatility, and personal style over hype.
