Tartan Skirts are Back and This High-Street Bestseller is Already Selling Fast

January 26, 2026

2026 is shaping up to be “the year of the statement skirt”. As fashion moves away from micro minis, bold, longer-length silhouettes are taking centre stage- and tartan is quickly emerging as one of the most in-demand looks.

British Vogue has named tartan skirts the first major street-style trend of 2026, spotted across fashion capitals and embraced by shoppers. The renewed love for heritage checks has been impossible to miss, fuelled partly by Claudia Winkleman’s iconic The Traitors wardrobe. Proof that while the series may be over, her fashion influence isn’t. Unsurprisingly, shoppers are following the trend closely. Google searches for tartan skirts are up 25%, and one high-street favourite has just made a timely return.

Monsoon’s previously sold out Agatha Check Drop-Waist Midi Skirt is now back in stock, and taps straight into the appetite for statement skirts with heritage appeal.

Agatha Check Drop Waist Midi Skirt Red

Featuring a flattering drop-waist silhouette and classic red tartan check, the skirt strikes the perfect balance between trend-led and timeless.

Shoppers are praising it online, with one saying: “I’ve been wanting a maxi skirt with the gingham on forever and I was influenced when I saw a girl wearing it on TikTok”
