Seeing Sardines Everywhere? Marina-core is this Summer’s Newest Trend

May 23, 2025

If you’ve noticed a sea-creature theme croppping up everywhere recently, you’re not the only one. From lobsters to sardines and even crabs, we’re all going mad for sealife this summer. Inspired by the euro-summer aesthetic, fashion retailers have coined the trend ‘Marina-core’.

We undoubtedly see iterations of ‘nautical’ inspired trends coming back year after year in the spring/summer months, but this year’s playful and relaxed take on the aesthetic is one we’re coining as ‘Marina-core’. Inspired by the euro-summer lifestyle, the Marina-core trend drums up visions of sun-drenched coastal scenes – alfresco seafood lunches, market bags and idyllic streets on the Mediterranean coast.

We’re reinterpreting the retro ‘seaside’ style with a boho feel – that means beaded crabs, embroidered lobsters, and painted sardines are making their way into our wardrobes this summer. These motifs pair perfectly with linen co-ord sets, raffia bags and crochet – creating a curated and stylish look that isn’t too novelty.

The trend manifests itself in lots of different forms – from graphic T-shirts to embellishments on jute and raffia bags and shellfish-inspired jewellery. All can be worn home or abroad – however you choose to adopt the trend, it’s an easy way to channel laid-back, coastal vibes.
