Nonna-Core is Trending – Here’s How to Style it

September 10, 2025

Summer is over, and autumn/winter trends are starting to creep in. Last year, the huge winter trend was Mob Wife, but this year, it’s going to be all about the slightly more refined Nonnacore. Nonnacore is inspired by traditional Italian grandmothers and was seen on the Fendi A/W25 runway in the form of oversized sunglasses, fur coats and headscarves. In fact, Google searches for ‘headscarf’ have been steadily increasing over the past year, up 10% this quarter alone, while searches for ‘fur coat’ are up 56% over the past month as people start to plan their autumnal wardrobes.

Faux fur

Faux fur coats are an autumn/winter staple, no matter what is trending, but to achieve the Nonnacore aesthetic, you want to think big and oversized with lots of accessories. This was revealed on the runway in the form of long coats and oversized accessories like scarves. Pair these with jeans, oversized sunglasses and loafers to lean into the trend.

Oversized sunglasses

Sunglasses aren’t just for summer, they’re for every season. And this upcoming autumn, it’s all about oversized shades – the bigger the better. Sunglasses can ramp up a basic outfit, and they’re a key accessory to the Nonnacore trend. Pair with an oversized faux fur coat, jeans and loafers for a warm, wearable autumnal look that will take you throughout the entire season.

Headscarves

Headscarves are the ultimate accessory in the Nonnacore trend. Italian Nonnas originally wore headscarves for practicality rather than fashion, but this trend has trickled all the way down to the catwalk. Silk headscarves are so simple, yet they can take an outfit to the next level. Try getting a silk hair scarf in the print of the season, like polka dots. This way, you can lean into it without having to spend a lot of money. These headscarves don’t have to be expensive; you can find them for only a few pounds on resale fashion sites. Throughout autumn and into winter, swap your headscarf for bonnets to channel a similar energy, only warmer.

Statement prints

No Nonnacore look is complete without a statement print. Animal print is going to dominate the upcoming season. But instead of the usual leopard and zebra print, we’re also going to see a lot of cowhide and deer print. This will be in the form of mostly bags, coats and jackets, alongside other accessories such as scarves and shoes. For a warm, yet stylish winter look, throw a statement print coat over a simple outfit, such as barrel jeans, leather boots and a t-shirt or jumper, with a huge pair of oversized sunglasses to tie everything together.
