How to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe into Autumn

If you’re anything like us, you’re still in denial that fall is upon us. Saying goodbye to the sunshine and preparing for those darker and colder days can be difficult not only for ourselves, but for our wardrobe. As much as we love all things layering, pumpkin spice lattes, knee high booties and cosy knitted sweaters, it seems that time has been flying by like a little blue bird and we’re not quite ready for Autumn just yet. But the time has come to get your bin of fall clothes out from the depths of your home and into your closet again.

Fall is the time of year when we are due for a wardobe update and transitioning your style from Summer to Autumn doesn’t have to be costly or stressful, as many pieces in your wardrobe can be reworked into your Autumn outfits for new looks this season. It’s all about layering and there’s no harm in treating yourself to a few new capsule pieces too, right?

Here are top tips for updating your wardrobe in time for the colder months:

Keep the florals and patterns

Just because it’s not as warm and sunny doesn’t mean florals have to hide. Switch the flowery summer dress to a floral shirt paired with jeans or ditsy print midi dress and tights for a warmer look – this goes for all prints for those who enjoy some fun pattern in their wardrobe. For the day-to-day, a patterned jumpsuit is a versatile statement piece that can take the place of a playsuit or skater dress on colder nights while still adding colour and vibrance to your look. Jumpsuits are perfect for pairing with a chunky sweater and trainers in the day or heels and a chic leather jacket for a night out.

Add boots to your look

Leather, suede, patterned or plain? Boots are a staple piece for all outfits. A classic Chelsea boot will take you about your day while a chunky platform will vamp up your night-time style. Whether you’re dressing up and pairing them with a dress or jumpsuit or keeping it casual with a skirt or some high waisted jeans and a t-shirt, boots are the perfect Autumn staple to take the place of summery sandals.

Pair your outfits with a funky jacket

Any outfit can be completed with a classic jacket, so it’s important to have a couple in your wardrobe that can be interchanged with any outfit. Timeless styles such as leather and denim jackets are perfect for versatility for day or night looks, but if you’re looking for a statement, then a bold blazer is a must. Houndstooth and plaid are on trend again this Autumn, so be sure to add one of these into your wardrobe for a power look that’s perfect for the office or to style for a night out.

Don’t lose your style

Drawing inspiration from others is how our individual style is created, but make sure you’re adding versatile pieces into your wardrobe that you can see wearing with several items of clothing. If you’re stuck for inspiration, think about how you would describe your personal style and search those terms online to check out blogs, mood boards and your favourite websites to get inspired. Check out the ‘new in’ pages on clothing websites; new women’s clothing from BGirl Fashion has newly added trend pieces for all styles.

Have fun making exciting outfits and stepping out in style this Autumn!
