Will The Beatles Biopic Bring Back 1960s Fashion?

Saoirse Ronan joins Sam Mendes’ Beatles film, and ‘60s style searches increase 5,000%

Fashion is set to go back to the Swinging Sixties.

Following the announcement that Saoirse Ronan will play Linda McCartney opposite Paul Mescal’s Paul McCartney in Sam Mendes’ (who has helmed 1917SpectreRevolutionary Road, and more) upcoming The Beatles biopic series, fashion watchers are already predicting a revival in 1960s-inspired looks.

New data from PRYA reveals that searches for 1960s fashion have exploded online, with “60s fashion vintage” up 50% in the past week, 100% in the past month and 400% year-on-year on Pinterest.

Ronan joins a star-studded cast including Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison in the four-part film, written by Jez Butterworth, Jack Thorne and Peter Straughan.

There are also reports that Aimee Lou Wood, Mia McKenna-Bruce and Anna Sawai are in talks to portray Patty Boyd, Maureen Starkey and Yoko Ono, respectively. And it seems the cultural effect has already begun. In the UK, Google searches for “late 60s fashion”, “Twiggy” and “swinging 60s style” have risen over 5,000% in the past month, suggesting that fans are already looking to emulate the era that changed fashion forever.

When The Beatles first rose to fame, fashion mirrored the decade’s transformation, evolving from the clean-cut mod look of tailored suits, moptop haircuts and Chelsea boots, to the psychedelic explosion of the late 1960s: shift dresses, paisley patterns, floral motifs, crochet, colour-blocking and flared jeans.

Key 60s style signatures making a comeback include:

  • Beehive hairstyles and berets
  • Coloured tights (which already reappeared in fashion last year)
  • Textured knits and crochet
  • Oversized glasses and bold colour blocking

The era’s icons, from Twiggy and Jane Birkin to Linda McCartney herself, embodied a sense of effortless rebellion and creativity that continues to influence designers today.

Even major fashion houses are embracing the revival. Chloé’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection reimagines the ‘60s with vibrant florals, ruffled mini dresses, puff sleeves, and sculptural accessories – marking a shift away from bohemian 70s influences towards sharper, more graphic silhouettes inspired by the Mod era.

It wasn’t just clothing that defined the decade, jewellery played a starring role too. Women stacked multiple rings, layered bracelets on each wrist, and paired bold, dangling earrings with statement necklaces. Oversized hoops, geometric shapes, and glass or crystal bead pieces became instant style staples, a look today’s trendsetters are already revisiting.

Arwa Hassan, in-house style director at PRYA, tells YCB: “The 1960s were one of the most expressive decades in fashion history, and it feels perfectly timed for a comeback. We’re already seeing statement hoops, bold chains, and colour-pop enamel trending again. The Beatles biopic could be the spark that makes sixties fashion go viral once more.”

From Afghan coats to polo necks, the resurgence of retro style is shaping up to be the year’s most unexpected comeback, and one that’s sure to hit a high note.
