This summer, bigger really is better, oversized hoop earrings are officially back in the spotlight. According to jewellery brand PRYA, searches for “oversized hoops” increased by over 40% in the past week. This is after Kylie Jenner was spotted courtside at a Lakers game wearing sleek, silver oversized hoop earrings, styled with black leather trousers and a white tank top – perfectly contrasted by Timothée Chalamet’s monochrome plaid look.
And she’s not alone, Khloe Kardashian, Rihanna and of course, Jennifer Lopez – a lifelong lover of the hoop – have all championed the trend in recent months, giving the Y2K favourite a modern twist.
From the 70s disco scene to 90s R&B and the golden age of Y2K, oversized hoop earrings have always been more than just jewellery, they’re a statement. This summer they’re back in full force, says Arwa Hassan, in-house style director at PRYA.
Arwa continues, “There’s something inherently confident about a hoop earring, especially when it’s oversized. The silver hoop in particular is having a real moment. It’s timeless, clean and modern, and this summer it’s being styled in a way that feels fresh, elevated and cool.”
