Personality, Playfulness and Soul – Meet the Interior Trend You Want to Know in 2026

Effortless eclectic is an interior trend taking over 2026 – Here’s how to style it in the home

2026 is the year of the horse, which represents seeking self-expression and breaking free of constraints, which is everything this design technique represents.

Eclectic interiors have been on the rise for a while now, but there is no time to fully embrace it like the year of the horse. It’s all about taking a step back from uniformed aesthetics, and making room for your personality and soul to shine through, filling your home with things that make you feel happy, rather than just following the next trend.

Embrace layering

Layering is an important part of eclectic interior design. Layering is a simple yet effective way to bring some eclectic energy into your home. Think of a mix of textures, colours and patterns. Don’t be afraid to mix and match, using colours and textures that naturally clash, such as velvet and silk, or a blend of animal prints like leopard and zebra print. The stark contrast creates a juxtaposed look that somehow works so well in the home, especially in living rooms and bedrooms.

Curate your crockery

Crockery is a great place to start if you want to inject some more personality and soul into your home.

Crockery is an easy, low-pressure way to add more personality to your home, especially because it’s something you can build up over time. If you come across unique or colourful plates and mugs on your travels, bring them home and use them. Don’t worry about whether they perfectly match your current aesthetic. It’s really about letting your space evolve naturally and making room for a bit of fun and playfulness along the way.

Find a base and build on it

Creating a home that embodies the eclectic interior trend doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of curation, so I suggest starting simple. A rug can be a great place to start, as you can build the rest of the room around it, taking inspiration from the colours, patterns and textures that weave through it.

Earthy colourways also work beautifully as a foundation for an eclectic home. Warm browns, deep terracottas, and burnt orange tones create a rich base that’s easy to build on, adding depth and colour while still keeping the overall feel cosy and grounded.
