Shopping Data Reveals Navy is the Interior Colour of the Season

How to incorporate this season’s hottest hue into your home interiors

Dill green was coined the colour of the summer. But what is the colour of the autumn/winter? Well, according to internal shopping data from UK furniture brand Heal’s, it’s navy blue.

Speaking on the increase in searches for blue, Hannah Armstrong, furniture buyer at Heals, said, “It’s surprising to see such a surge in the popularity of blue, especially throughout the winter months, as it is usually considered to be a cold colour. That being said, blue has a naturally calming, tranquil quality that instantly creates a sense of calm in the home. It’s also incredibly versatile, pairing beautifully with this season’s trending shades like soft yellow, which has increased 30% on Google over the past quarter and warm brown shades, which have increased 32%. Not only does it work perfectly as a statement colourway, but it works just as well as an accent in the form of a sofa, armchair, or rug.”

Here, Hannah has also shared below her top tips on how to incorporate different shades of blue throughout your home to lean into the trend.

Find a blue colour palette that fits the mood of your home

Hannah says, “The secret to styling blue successfully lies in the colour palette. Dark blues like navy look effortlessly elegant when paired with crisp whites or soft greys for a clean, classic finish. For a richer, more grounded look, try pairing with terracotta, burnt orange, or tan to instantly add warmth and help bring your room to life.”

“When styling a bolder shade such as teal, try pairing it with a warm colour palette of rust, coral or blush pink. Metallic accents are also key to elevating teal’s rich and mesmerising hue. Brass and gold accessories, such as sconces and candles, can add warmth and sophistication, particularly in living spaces, while chrome, which is having a major moment right now, can bring a sleek, contemporary edge to your space.”

“Alongside navy and teal, lighter shades such as dove blue are also surging in popularity, with Google searches up +53% over the past quarter. Dove blue pairs perfectly with other colours of the season, including butter yellow and chocolate brown, which create a warm, yet nostalgic colour palette that works perfectly in bedrooms and living rooms.” Says Hannah.

Blue furniture can add a pop of colour to neutral spaces

“You don’t have to reach for a paintbrush to tap into this season’s blue trend. A statement blue sofa can instantly transform a room, particularly in sumptuous velvet or curvaceous retro styles like the Togo. For a more understated approach, a blue armchair can provide a pop of colour while keeping the look cohesive.” Hannah recommends.

Pair blue with wooden accents for a nature-inspired atmosphere

“Combining blue tones with wooden furniture instantly brings a sense of calm and balance to a room. Blue’s tranquil energy complements the natural warmth of wood, creating a home that feels grounded and connected to nature.” Hannah says.

“In the bedroom, a wooden bed frame dressed in soft blue bedding and throws will help you achieve a serene atmosphere to drift away peacefully, while a wooden coffee table in the living room pairs beautifully alongside a blue sofa or cushions, and can bring a grounding feel to the entire space.”
