Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa: The Best Place for a Romantic Weekend Away in the UK

Oohhh… is there anything more romantic than a getaway to the Lake District? We just adore any excuse to get out in the crisp fresh air, take in the breathtaking mountain views and of course enjoy regular pit stops to try out the local cuisine. But this year, we will be upgrading to a couples pamper weekend at Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa.

The highlight of this 4-star hotel is undoubtedly the location. Nestled in the heart of the beautiful Borrowdale valley for over 200 years, it sits comfortably on the lakeside making it a dreamy venue for anniversaries, Valentine’s Day or birthday celebrations. With free wifi, free parking and dog-friendly rooms available on request, your accommodation really is a home away from home, but with one big difference. Your stay will be one of the most luxurious and relaxing available in the Lake District.

The historic building has an air of opulence from the outside and the interiors don’t disappoint. The modern furnishings include soft leather, tweed and velvet set against calming colours that mirror the greens and blues found in the natural surroundings.

You can take in the views of Derwentwater from the utterly elegant Lake View restaurant, hot tub or one of the many beautifully decorated rooms and suites. The rooms are modern and recently rejuvenated with everything you need to relax such as flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities as standard.

The Deluxe Spa Suites are what we’ve got our eye on though, as many include a balcony with panoramic views of the lake and surrounding fells. As well as the best views, the Spa Suites have got you covered with everything you could possibly need. Each room is fully stocked with complimentary prosecco, fresh fruit, snacks and a coffee machine with pods. With 24-hour room service, robes, slippers, Elemis toiletries and nightly turndown from staff its safe to say that you and your partner will be treated like royalty from the moment you arrive.

With the Spa Suites, you’ll also get full access to the most incredible spa and modern gym between your check-in and check-out dates, allowing you to make full use of the facilities. Don’t worry though, if you book a standard room you can still choose to add on a spa package separately to gain access.

Start by taking a dip in the hydro pool and overflow hot tub — the perfect place to fully absorb the magnificent views, with a drink in hand enjoying the sound of the crackling fireplace. Then move into the spa itself where there is no shortage of ways for you and your partner to pamper yourselves during your stay.

Designers have taken inspiration from the great outdoors, making the spa interiors feel at one with nature using calming hues and textures to make you feel connected to the earth. Try the ancient rasul ritual using purifying clay and steam, or book an exclusive Akwaterra massage using precious La Sultane de Saba oils. There are also custom facials and couples packages to choose from to leave you feeling your absolute best by the end of your stay.

If the outdoors is more your thing then you’ll be spoilt for choice, this is the Lake District after all! Take the short walk to the Lodore Falls waterfall, a stunning piece of natural beauty on your doorstep. The Derwentwater lake itself is a popular destination for walkers and has a 10-mile scenic route surrounding the water, featuring flat and easy paths. If that seems like a bit much don’t worry, you can board the Keswick Launch boat. Hop on and hop off all day to have a romantic picnic for two at the Great Wood. If you’d rather enjoy the lake from the water then stay on the boat for the full 50-minute tour and take in the views in style.

More adventurous couples might opt to climb Skiddaw Mountain. But with an ascent of 970m, you’ll need to be prepared to set aside 6-7 hours to tackle this magnificent fell.

Keswick town is less than four miles away and has a great selection of things to do including the weekly markets which have been running for almost 800 years! Each stall is unique with local produce, gifts, home items and lots of fresh, tasty food.

After a long hard day of exploring (or relaxing at the spa!) round off your day with a visit to the 2 Rosette award-winning Lake View Restaurant. In keeping with the hotel’s grandeur, guests are asked to dress in casual but smart attire to continue the special experience. A great excuse to get dressed up! With a strong emphasis on carefully sourced local produce, you’ll be blown away by the flavours on offer from the experienced head chef.

During your stay you’ll also want to try out Mizu, the Pan Asian Restaurant on-site which features an open plan kitchen, creating a lively atmosphere and a sneak peek of chefs at work. Enjoy the freshest ingredients prepared by the highly skilled team who work hard to create a menu drawing on Japanese, Korean, Malaysian and Thai influences.

All this on the banks of the Watendlath Beck and in the comfort of your hotel. In between meals, you can enjoy a refreshment in the cocktail bar lounge area where Scandi-inspired decor and cosy seating areas provide the idyllic setting for you and your loved one to enjoy each others company.
