Forest Bathing: The New Trend in Luxury Travel

Have you heard of forest bathing? It’s been named as one of the top trends to watch this year!

Forest Bathing

Everyone knows the magical power of being outside, especially when surrounded by trees and without a cell signal. There’s something magically terrifying about the woods and maybe that is why we often feel so healed coming out of them with an invigorated sense of ‘I can do anything’. But have you considered ever bathing in and becoming one with it? At least on a somehow deeper level?

If so, I think we may have found an answer for you. There’s a trend coming out of Japan, known as Shinrin-yoku or ‘forest bathing’, and it’s pretty freaking phenomenal, if I do say so myself. I really want to try it. But anyway. What it does is a way and process to engage with the outdoors-as in connecting all five of your senses. It’s a great way to heal deeply both your insides as well as the self you exude publicly. It’s like a spa day that uses only the things you find in the wild that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, bioactive enzymes, and so much more that provide a treatment leaving you both refreshed and revived from the inside out. It’s really a great thing.

Though I’m sure you can find a similar rush just by hiking in the woods or on your favourite trail, the award-winning, 20,000-square-foot spa The Mayflower Grace in New England, USA, provides an experience unlike most anything else. It combines a B&B vibe with all sorts of connections to a variety of outdoor activities and a phenomenal spa facility. Their goal is to reconnect with not only yourself but with the outdoors. It’s funny how fresh air, trees that touch the sky, and 58 acres of pure bliss where you can get away for a minute.

Kristi Dickinson, spa director of the Mayflower Grace, said the resort added the program after reading the health and stress-reduction benefits of forest bathing. During forest bathing at the Mayflower Grace, Kristi told us, “we actually give our guests things to engage with: smells, sounds. It’s about how nature communicate with us, the position of the sun, stars animal tracks.”

By now, we all know I’m a major fan of the outdoors, back woods B&Bs, and reconnecting with your inner self. And finding a place like the Mayflower Grace combine all three seamlessly into a getaway you will not want to miss on. Just the amount of things found in nature that cannot only make you feel better but have you looking better as well is an insane amount. And it only makes it better that it’s all natural as well.

And plus, who doesn’t love a good spa weekend? It’s the perfect excuse to get your girls together, get away for a few days, and really become your most authentic self. A weekend away full of forest bathing and reconnecting is just what you need. And a weekend at The Mayflower is just where you’ll find it.

At The Mayflower Grace, guests can experience Forest Bathing for two hours for $110 or $80/person if there are two or more people.

Having loved the written word as long as she can remember, Dana has written for I Am That Girl, Man of The Hour, and more. She’s far too comfortable on the open road and in airports. And she can be found on Instagram at honey.thyme or on Twitter at hazelnuthyme. She regularly uses one and tries to keep up with the other. If she’s not buried in a book, Dana can be found at the local coffeehouse, planning her next article or book chapter.
