Why you should add these hipster hotspots to your bucket list

Hipster hotspots to add on your bucket list

Everyone has one. Whether it’s typed up in your phone notes or scraggly written on an old napkin in the back of your drawer, everyone has a bucket list. More specifically? A travel bucket list. Places you want to visit, destinations you can’t wait to afford to go see and maybe cities you want to live in one day (our editor Charlotte decided to pack her bags and move to Barcelona in 2011, a dream she’s always wanted to pursue and jumped straight on the opportunity when she got offered a job in Public Relations). After all, opportunities are one time shots and if you don’t take them that instant, you might lose them forever.

Traveling is such an incredible, insatiable activity and with so much of the world to see and explore, how could you not have a running list of “all the places you must go”? Though your list may already be 50 places long, we know you’re going to want to add these next five places ASAP:

1. Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Itching to throw on a fabulous bikini and dance the night away in the Southern hemisphere? (Honestly, if you said no to that question, we don’t know what’s up with you.) Known for its street parties, drinks, and art work, Lapa is the place to go if you’re looking for a warm, hipsteresque experience. While a ton of people overlook South America as a destination spot, we’d recommend grabbing some bold printed shorts to pair with your bikini and a layer of statement jewellery to fit right in with the locals, and hitting up this popular neighbourhood with a few of your girlfriends.

2. Maboneng, Johannesburg, South Africa

“It’s time for Africa…” Ah, what’s better than a city full of art, culture, travelers and creativity? A far cry from the wilderness you may think of when you picture Africa, this town is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a unique city to explore. The long plane ride is totally worth it once you hit up the hip galleries, bustling restaurants, and beautiful views. Dress like an African girl and go for mixed prints in flowing fabrics and an eye-popping palette. Pack up your favorite maxi skirt, some flat sandals and pretty sunnies and book this trip of a lifetime.

3. Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand

If you’ve always wanted to cover your Facebook in wonderfully pictures of you adventuring down under—this is the city for you. You’ll be able to visit charming coffee shops, gardens, markets, boutiques, even gorgeous villas, and who doesn’t love a trip to the other side of the world? While different from your typical New Zealand spot, you’ll be happy you made a stop in Auckland’s oldest suburb. Embrace those summertime vibes and hit up Parnell’s boutique stores in pretty lace, cute sneakers, a simple cross body, and your prettiest florals.

4. Haus Khas Village, New Delhi, India

If this city hasn’t already made it’s way to your travel bucket list, stop what you’re doing and add it right now. These stylish streets will steal your heart, as will the bookstores and cozy cafes. Also, feel free to Google the Hauz Khas Madrasa for a peek at some of the stunning ruins you could see if you make the trek to India. Since you’ll most likely be spending some time out and about shopping under the beating sun, pick up a few colourful flowy dresses before you leave so you can stay cool and comfortable while you explore.

Do you have any other hipster hotspots you can’t wait to see? Maybe you’re dying to drink cups of coffee in Portland Oregon, explore the markets in Morocco, try new foods in Thailand, or dance the night away in Cuba. Wherever your wanderlusting may take you, we wish you safe travels and the most beautiful of adventures!
