Why Kylie and Timothée Waited 2 Years to Hard Launch

Why Kylie and Timothée Waited 2 Years to Hard Launch

May 12, 2025

Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have been dating for around two years now, and despite their unlikely relationship, the pair seem to be going strong. However, despite being pictured multiple times at festivals, basketball games and more, it was only last week that the pair went official on the red carpet at the 70th David Di Donatello Awards. But, why have the couple waited this long to hard launch their relationship? According to multi-award-winning sex and relationships coach Gemma Nice, it could be for good reason. Gemma has stated that delaying a hard launch can relieve the pressure on the relationship to succeed.

“It’s healthy to hold off on a hard launch because it also gives you the time to test the waters and the relationship to grow, especially coming out of the ‘honeymoon’ period. With regards to Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet coming out onto the red carpet together, they have given their relationship a complete soft launch, and this is to protect them as a couple away from prying eyes. As they are in the public eye, they are aware of the stories that may be written about them and may want to avoid them. Some celebrities like to keep their relationships out of the media, and this may be the case for Kylie and Timothée, keeping work as work and their private life private. They will have most likely come to this agreement together and communicated this between themselves. They don’t need prying eyes or media attention as they are both more than well aware of the pressures it can bring.”

It’s well known to the world that Timothée hasn’t kept his previous relationships on the down low to this extent, but Gemma has provided some insight into why this may be.

“Timothée hasn’t done this with previous relationships because he hasn’t dealt with dating a reality TV star before, and probably wants to avoid media scrutiny for it. He most likely wants to maintain a professional acting career and not get swept up in Kylie’s high-profile life. Doing a soft launch of the relationship has given them time to build trust and communication, and not be bombarded by the media. He wants to be recognised by the world for his professional work rather than who he is dating, while also keeping his relationship with Kylie out of the spotlight to protect them both.

This can certainly be the case in everyday relationships, too. Suppose you have a family member or a friend who you know is going to comment or make nasty remarks about your relationship. In that case, it’s best to keep it hidden from them until you’re ready, so you don’t get caught up in the negative energy from this specific person. It’s all about communication and trust within each other, and when you both feel ready to tell the world.”

Gemma also goes on to discuss what’s behind soft launch vs hard launch in relationships

“A soft launch is great for people who would like to keep their relationship private and avoid the pressure of making things public. The more people who know about your relationship, the more outside input there will be, and this can make the two people in the relationship feel anxious. A soft launch allows them to focus on themselves rather than others and be less susceptible to outside noise.

When you keep your relationship private or add in a soft launch on social media here and there, it can add to emotional safety. This can have a profound effect during intimacy. You can spend more time together just getting to know each other without the worry of gossiping friends or outside judgment. This can help build communication and trust if there has been trauma or infidelity in previous relationships.

It also means you don’t have to keep taking to social media to share your relationship with the world or come up with funny tag lines, giving you more intimate time as a couple. You can just be you and don’t need to think about others. The most successful relationships are often the quiet ones, and Kylie and Timothée are proof of that.”
