TikTok Beats YouTube With the Highest Average Daily User Time in 2025

Nearly a decade after its launch, TikTok’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down, with the video-sharing platform posting impressive download and user figures year after year. In 2024, TikTok was the most downloaded app worldwide, with 773 million installs across iOS and Android, and the latest data show between 1.5 billion and 1.6 billion monthly active users in 2025. This massive global audience has helped TikTok to achieve something no other social media platform has ever done – dethrone YouTube in daily usage time.
According to data presented by Jemlit.com, Android users worldwide spend an average of one hour and 37 minutes watching TikTok daily, 12 minutes more than on YouTube. Here is how TikTok compares to other social media giants.
TikTok Tops Instagram by 20 Minutes and Facebook by Half an Hour in Daily Usage Time
Unlike many Chinese apps that failed to succeed outside China, TikTok snowballed into one of the world’s most popular apps, with roughly 1.6 billion users worldwide. The app broke into international markets after acquiring Musical.ly in 2017, adding around 80 million users, mainly from the United States.
Although TikTok’s success has been occasionally interrupted by data privacy controversies and even a threat of potential ban in its second-largest market, the United States, its usage has continued surging, turning it into an undisputed king of the social media space.
For years, YouTube consistently ranked as the world’s most-used social media platform in terms of time spent, both globally and among Android users. However, that changed in 2025 when TikTok dethroned YouTube in daily usage time.
According to the Data Reportal Digital 2025 Global Overview Report, Android users spent an average of one hour and 37 minutes per day watching TikToks in August, far more than any other social media app. YouTube ranked second with 12 minutes less, or one hour and 25 minutes in daily usage time. TikTok’s dominance becomes even more striking when compared to Facebook and Instagram, the world’s largest and third-largest social media platforms.
Statistics show that Android users now spend one hour and 13 minutes daily on Instagram, or 22 minutes less than on TikTok. Facebook trails even more behind, with one hour and seven minutes per day, nearly half an hour less than TikTok. Also, with one hour and 37 minutes of daily use, TikTok is used three times longer than X and about five times more than Reddit, Snapchat, and Discord.
Android User Spend Nearly 25 Full Days Per Year Watching TikTok
TikTok’s usage figures become even more striking when viewed on a larger scale, per week, per month, or per year. While one hour and 37 minutes daily already sounds like a lot, that adds up to 11 hours and 19 minutes per week, more than two full days per month, and a shocking 25 days per year.
In other words, Android users now spend nearly an entire month each year watching TikToks and doing nothing else, proving its status as the most addictive social media app.
