Living Alone & Making it Work

Living on your own can be hard, we get that! All those decisions adding up that you have to make by yourself, from the smallest issues to the most important ones. Of all the decisions you have to make in your adult life, choosing a home is undoubtedly one of the most challenging-yet-essential. There are many many factors to consider when you’re looking for properties, and one of the main questions to ask yourself is whether you want to buy or rent….

Renting may be the best option if you are planning changes in your life in the near future: perhaps you are dating that special someone and you have spoken about getting married, starting a family, or moving away. However, buying a home is really a good option when your life is already stable; you are very clear about what you want, and you have plans to continue in the same track for a forseeable future. You have to think about all this very carefully because it’s a long-term investment.

In the past, living alone was associated with loneliness and sadness. But times are changing and fortunately today, it has lost its stigma and instead, not sharing a house with anyone but yourself has become something that many people love (and craving). The pleasure of living alone is not just about being the only one occupying the sofa or avoiding the fights over the TV remote control, it’s a feeling of peace, of dealing only with yourself and your worries.

For all these reasons, think well about what you need from a new house. If you are looking for a small apartment in the city to suit your little needs, or a country house to keep you away from the worldly noise.

If you don’t have a lot of money, because not all of us do, and you feel comfortable in small spaces, a studio or studio apartment is the perfect choice. (Even a loft in London will look pretty attractive, scouting the web…). This type of housing is the most economical and consists in a large room that contains the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom in one place. Sometimes the kitchen or bedroom may be in a separate room. When they have shared bathrooms, these flats are often called bedsits.

A good option if you can afford it is the luxury flats. These types of homes are spacious and have all the amenities that anyone could wish for. It’s even possible to ask developers to create the flats based on your specific requirements. Some even have their own rooftop garden, gym or swimming pool!

What else could you ask for?
