Four Tips to Fight Post-Holiday Fatigue

The holidays are over and it’s back to your normal routine. Yet rather than stepping into high gear, you may find yourself feeling less than energized. Could it be all that festive food still weighing you down or is it post-holiday fatigue?

Here, we share our top tips to boost your mood and energy levels following the festive break:

1) Get a good night’s sleep

After the chaos of Christmas, getting enough good quality sleep is vital for fighting post-holiday fatigue. Aim for about 8 hours of shut eye a night and try to go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Make sure your bedroom helps you feel relaxed and sleepy: clear the clutter, have comfortable and warm bedding, and turn off your phone and TV.

If you’re one of the estimated 21 millions Brits still struggling to get a good night’s sleep, try using a traditional herbal remedy. Valerian root extract has been used for centuries as a trusted sleep aid due to its herbal sedative effect. This soothing ingredient can be found in Kalms Night One-A-Night tablets used to relieve sleeplessness. Unlike some sleep remedies, Kalms Night won’t leave you feeling drowsy the next day.

2) Eat the right food

We all like to over indulge over the Christmas period however, once the festivities are over, it’s important to get your diet back on track. Avoid gorging on sugary treats for a pick-me-up too; you’ll feel great initially, but they’ll give you a short-lived high that ends in a crash. Instead, try and include plenty of fruit and vegetable in your diet – you’ll find you have more energy as a result.

It’s also important to get more vitamin D into your diet as our bodies are unable to create enough at this time of year. The NHS recommends eating foods which are rich in the vitamin, including oily fish, red meat and fortified food, such as some fat spreads and breakfast cereals.

3) Try an energy enhancer

Whilst a healthy diet and plenty of rest can help fight post-holiday fatigue, there are also times when you need an extra boost.

Thanks to its caffeine kick, Pro Plus® relieves the symptoms of fatigue and tiredness, helping you to feel more energised. Pro Plus tablets are available to purchase from supermarkets and pharmacies nationwide.

4) Get moving

When you’re running low on energy, probably the last thing you want to do is venture out into the cold, but a healthy dose of morning exercise can release a welcome burst of feelgood endorphins. If it’s too cold outside, or you don’t fancy running the dark, try to migrate your workouts indoors at the local gym or at home. Aim for the NHS guidelines of at least 150 minutes of exercise per week.
