Whether You Love Sparkles or Not, Here’s How to Add Some Glamour to Your Partywear

The holiday season is almost here, and it seems not all women are on board with the sparkle. In fact, 1 in 5 (20%) prefer to skip the sequins althogether and instead, women are choosing classic festive colours like red, green, or burgundy. Velvet also reigns strong as 18% of women’s top pick for party attire. When it comes to dressing for Christmas parties and festive celebrations, it’s fun to play around with different styles and textures to your everyday outfits. Almost two-thirds (60%) of women said one of their favourite ways to dress up an outfit at this time of year is to add sparkly jewellery, according to the study, carried out by Pandora UK.
Wearing festive colours is a really easy way of dressing for party season, the chances are you already have something green, burgundy or red in your wardrobe that you can style. There are lots of easy ways to dress these up, by adding a pair of sparkly earrings, a bracelet stack or sculptural ear cuff.
This season’s partywear trends and how to style them
Velvet & lace
One of the fashion trends I’m loving this party season is the combination of lace and velvet. We saw lots of lace edged satin pieces in the summer months, but the addition of velvet makes it feel really festive and sleek. These two textures complement each other really well and are best accessorised with chunky but minimal jewellery pieces, like a silver cuff bracelet or a gold plated earring in a hoop or stud.
Draped silhouettes
Draping has been a big trend this year and it’s one that translates beautifully to partywear pieces too, whether that’s a blouse with a dramatic draped scarf or a sweeping cowl back on a mini dress. These styles feel really feminine and elegant, but they’re also a big neckline feature so I’d avoid wearing a necklace with them but pairing with a sparkly stud earring and a bracelet stack to add some fun to your outfit.
Metallic maxing
Gold and silver are popular every Christmas for good reason and metals are proving to be big again this year. Gold and silver metallic pieces are timeless and there will always be a tone that flatters your colouring. This year, think Studio 54 inspired, shimmery textures and sparkly accessories. We love mixing silver and gold charm bracelets, or incorporating two-toned pieces for added interest.
Feather edging
From blazers with feather cuffs to dresses with feather hems, we’re loving a plume this party season. It’s a really fun look and adds a touch of 1920s inspired glamour to your outfit. Wearing the feather trend in black or white is a classic look, and allows you to add touches of colour through your accessories like a coloured gemstone stud earring, a charm necklace with a statement green or red charm or a birthstone ring.
