The Princess of Wales’ Rare Ruby Earrings Make a Striking Return

On Tuesday 11th November, the Princess of Wales made a poignant solo appearance at the Armistice Day Service of Remembrance, held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. She joined fellow attendees in observing the two-minute silence at 11am, before laying a wreath on behalf of the Royal Family in a moving tribute to those who have served and sacrificed.

For the occasion, Kate opted for a bespoke Catherine Walker military-style coat dress, complemented by a Jane Taylor hat and wool gloves by Cornelia James. However, it was her striking ruby and diamond drop earrings that truly captured attention. Steven Stone’s creative director, Maxwell Stone, shared everything we need to know about the exquisite pieces – from their history and previous appearances to their impressive estimated value.

Maxwell describes the earrings as featuring a vivid ruby centre stone surrounded by a delicate halo of diamonds, with a single diamond set at the top to complete the elegant design. Interestingly, they bear a striking resemblance to a pair owned by Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, whose version – set with three times as many rubies – is valued at around $300,000. By comparison, Maxwell estimates Kate’s earrings to be worth approximately $100,000.
Yesterday wasn’t the first time the Princess of Wales had chosen these striking earrings. She first debuted them in May for the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and later wore them again in September while welcoming U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on their State Visit to the UK.

Kate’s choice to wear her ruby and diamond drop earrings for the Armistice Day Service of Remembrance added a subtle yet powerful touch of elegance to her ensemble. The vivid red stones perfectly complimented the solemnity and symbolism of the occasion, making them a standout accessory. Given that the Princess of Wales rarely opts for rubies – typically favouring sapphires, pearls, or diamonds – this appearance made the earrings all the more remarkable, highlighting both their sentimental value and the thoughtful intention behind her style choices.
