‘French Girl Summer’ is the Latest Viral Style – Fashion Experts Share How to Get the Look

July 4, 2025

‘French Girl Summer’ is the latest style trend gaining momentum, reaching 5,000 global searches in June alone. The trend began to rise considerably following Sofia Richie’s recent ‘French bob’ debut during her Cannes holiday, which has helped shape the aesthetic.

We teamd up with the fashion expert at jewellery brand PRYA and they have curated a set of tips to help YCB readers tap into the effortless French Girl look, along with jewellery staples that perfectly complement the trend.

Searches for ‘French Girl Summer’ have soared to 5,000 this month alone, reaching their highest ever point, according to new data by jewellery brand PRYA. And with British Vogue declaring Sophia Richie’s latest bob and pared-back style as peak ‘French girl,’ it’s no surprise the look is now dominating TikTok, Pinterest and Instagram alike.

The aesthetic? Quiet luxury meets coastal cool. Think breezy button-downs, silk neck scarves, dainty jewellery, ballet flats and a messy bob.

According to Arwa Hassan, in-house style director at PRYA, the French Girl Summer aesthetic is one of the easiest styles to achieve. “It’s all about effortless elegance,” she says. “The French girl look isn’t overly styled. It’s confident, minimal and timeless. The key is to invest in a few elevated staples and let your accessories do the talking.”

How to Achieve the French Girl Summer Aesthetic

  1. Choose classic basics

A crisp white shirt, straight-leg jeans or tailored trousers, and a basket bag are all must-haves. Keep the colour palette soft and neutral with cream, navy, camel and dusty rose.

  1. Add a silk scarf

Whether tied around your neck, worn in your hair or looped through your bag, a silk scarf is a signature touch. Choose vintage-inspired prints in muted tones.

  1. Ballet flats are a must

Comfort is key. Go for classic flats in nude or black leather, or opt for a barely-there sandal on warmer days.

  1. Keep it natural

Fresh skin, brushed-up brows and a slick of berry-tinted lip balm is all you need for French girl makeup. For hair, a tousled bob or relaxed chignon gives that nonchalant edge.

  1. Accessorise with dainty jewellery

Finish with jewellery that whispers, not shouts. “French girl jewellery is all about subtle details,” says Hassan. “Fine gold chains, tiny hoops, and stackable rings that add a polished touch without stealing the show.”

PRYA’s bestselling initial pendants and huggie hoops are ideal for layering, creating a chic style that’s perfect for a beach stroll and an al fresco dinner alike.
