The Poetic Darkness Of John Rocha

The poetic darkness of John Rocha

John Rocha aw14 London Fashion Week

All the components of a stellar John Rocha show were present at London Fashion Week with voluminous skirts, fabulous millenery and lashings of drama. There was an air of the poetic and romance, but with a darker temperament and the clothes were dramatically extravagant yet beautiful. The huge, gorgeous ruffles and corsages were sculpted form organza, displaying extraordinary workmanship. John Rocha creates the kind of clothes you dreamed of as a little girl. The kind of fairy tale ensembles that are fit for Hollywood royalty or our very own Princess (what we wouldn’t give to see the Duchess of Cambridge in one of these daringly melodramatic gowns), the collection was one part Disney, one part luxurious and the very epitome of decadent.

Silk organza was layered to form oversized rosettes that sat atop the models heads and artfully across their shoulders. Don’t let the fabulously over sized hats fool you though. Whilst the frou frou millinery was not for the faint hearted, amidst the mille-feuilles of silk ruffles were a host of rather beautiful and highly wearable garments. There were dresses in beautiful lace, well cut trousers with high, paper bag waists and demure little suits in boucle tweed, modernised with their pairing with buckled leather heels and ankle socks.

It takes true skills to work with such large volumes of fabric yet so artfully drape the female form. Whilst the silhouettes were every inch voluminous, the waist was not lost, keeping the looks highly flattering. The gowns were arguably screaming out for a red carpet, and we can’t wait to see which one of our favourite starlets attempts to swathe herself in one of these fantastical creations. She would be both brave, fabulous and the centre of attention.
