From parties to premieres, Kimberlee Oo brings us the weekly red carpet wrap-up.
This week, the movie stars and silver screen sirens take a break as the who’s who of music take to the red carpet. The Grammys are always a style smorgasbord and this year was all about getting nude – strategic sheer panels, bikini-baring splits and risqué wraps were all the rage. Of course, there were the usual sequins and frou-frou, but the looks that really turned our heads were both classic and cutting-edge.
The Lady of the Moment definitely gets serious swag points for rocking a monochrome onesie on the red carpet. Think about it – is there anyone else who could have pulled off this look as well as B? The striking Osman jumpsuit is a stylish change from the glittering gowns (ahem, Taylor Swift) and makes a fierce fashion statement. Just look at that pose! Beyonce works it with red lips, a pulled back pony and chunky cuffs.
Beyonce’s bestie divided critics, but we loved her look. It’s sexy, daring and she looks totally bangin’ in it. (We do have our doubts about how she managed to walk or sit, but that’s beside the point.) While it doesn’t leave much to the imagination, this Georges Chakra gown definitely leaves a lasting impression. The sharp cutouts cover the essentials, and the tulle skirt keeps it glam rather than dominatrix. Kelly’s trademark shiny fringe and oversized jewels put her up in B’s good company.
And the best for last. Quite possibly one of the best red carpet looks ever, Rihanna absolutely floored us in her custom Azzedine Alaia gown. We’ve have never seen Rihanna look this good – the gown is glamorous and still a little revealing (hello nipples), and RiRi’s hair and makeup are beyond perfection. Rihanna’s famous for her cutting edge ensembles, but we’re so glad she’s gone back to basics. Long hair, a fire engine red lip and classic jewels are minimalistic and understated – the best example of less is more. Anyway, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, so let’s just bask in Rihanna’s style glory.
