The Bridal Hair Shift Defining 2026

May 8, 2026

Summer wedding season is approaching, and bridal beauty is shifting away from heavily styled, overly polished looks towards something far more natural, intentional and personal.

Bridal hair has definitely shifted. It’s less about ‘perfect’ and more about intention, something which complements the dress and overall look, rather than necessarily being a centre piece itself.

Think softer, more personal, more wearable – but still elevated, more than just your ‘everyday hair’. As a hairstylist, what I’m seeing (and what’s coming through strongly into 2026) is a move towards styles that feel like you, just refined. And the jewellery – that’s what finishes it. Not an afterthought, but part of the overall look.

This shift is redefining how brides approach finishing details, particularly jewellery, which is increasingly being chosen to respond to hair texture, structure and overall styling direction.

Here are the key bridal hair directions shaping 2026, and how jewellery is being styled in response to each look.

Undone, Lived-In Waves

Soft waves remain one of the most requested bridal styles, but for 2026 they are evolving into looser, more textured, and less structured finishes.

Think natural movement, brushed-out texture, nothing too ‘set’. It’s that effortless, expensive-looking hair which can often make brides feel super comfortable if they are used to wearing their hair down.

With hair taking on a more relaxed feel, jewellery styling is becoming more considered and minimal.

For jewellery, I advise not going too heavy up top as it can look like there’s too much going on with hair down. Instead, I’d go for smaller hoops or huggies and a dainty chain necklace to complement.

Here, Arwa Hassan, co-founder and style director at PRYA adds, “Delicate layering works beautifully here, small studs or huggies paired with a simple necklace and bracelet let the hair remain the focus while subtly elevating the overall look.”

The Low/Mid-Height Textured Bun

The classic bridal bun remains a timeless choice, but for 2026 it is being reworked with softness, movement, and a more intentional undone finish.

A low or mid-height bun will always be timeless, but for 2026, it’s all about that purposeful texture within it. Slightly undone, a bit of softness around the face and not overly polished. But this type of ‘undone hair’ is actually quite hard to achieve intentionally.

This shift creates space for jewellery to become more expressive and focal.

The great thing stylistically about this hair look is that it gives space for the jewellery to shine. Think statement gold earrings, or a classic drop down pearl earring which modernises the full bridal look.

Updos make earrings the focal point, so this is where you can go slightly bolder. Statement earrings or sculptural studs create a clean, elevated finish. For something more modern, marquise-cut stones add a sharper edge, while bezel-set rounds feel softer and contemporary.

Sleek Styles

At the opposite end of the spectrum, sleek bridal hair is also growing in popularity, defined by clean middle parts, glass-like finishes, straight lengths, and sculpted buns.

On the flip side, we’re also seeing a rise in super sleek hair – think middle parts, glass-like finishes, straight long lengths or neat slicked back buns.

This is where contrast comes in – clean, simple hair paired with statement jewellery feels modern, strong and fashion-led. Think larger earrings and chain bracelets.

Sleek styles leave no distraction, so the jewellery has to hold its own. Stacked huggies and sculptural studs work best because they add polish without interrupting the clean lines. With an ultra-sleek bun, even the smallest detail stands out – a subtle glint from a huggie under a sheer veil is often enough.

Natural Texture, Enhanced

One of the most significant bridal shifts for 2026 is the growing embrace of natural texture, from curls and coils to waves worn in their authentic form.

With natural curls, coils, or waves, I’d advise nothing too busy up to as there will already be volume with the hair – it’s more about balancing everything out. A couple of classic, skinny bangles on the wrist will really complement the hair, as well as going all out with some ring stacking.

This is where subtle personalised jewellery really shines. Stackable rings, layered necklaces and delicate bracelets let the personality of the bride come through without overpowering her natural beauty.

The Biggest Shift in Bridal Jewellery

Alongside these hair changes, bridal jewellery is also moving towards individuality and personal expression, with brides increasingly choosing pieces based on identity rather than tradition.

The Padel Bracelet

Across the UK, “wedding jewellery” now averages 20,000 searches per month, up 17 percent in the past quarter, while specific bridal jewellery categories are seeing sharp increases including “bridal earrings” and pearl-focused searches.

“The biggest change in bridal jewellery is the move towards individuality. Brides are no longer asking what they should wear, they’re asking what works for them,” says Arwa.

“It’s less about tradition and more about creating a look that feels authentic. Even something blue has evolved; brides are choosing sapphire or topaz studs that feel understated but still meaningful. The biggest mistake is over-accessorising. The most elevated bridal looks are often the simplest – it’s about choosing pieces that truly work with the overall styling.”
