Make Your Italian Break Even More Memorable by Attending an Opera

When you travel it is important to enjoy some of the local culture, as well as taking in the sights. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of doing the same things regardless of where you travel to. If you are not careful all of your holiday memories kind of blur together. You stop being able to remember the individual churches, museums, art galleries and beaches you have visited. Somehow they all become one.

To stop this from happening, it is an excellent idea to make a point of doing at least one really different thing during each holiday. If you are visiting Italy, a night at the opera could be the perfect one-off experience for you.

When it comes to getting your hands on tickets, Opera Tickets Italy is a great place to find them.

Did you know that the first opera was performed in Italy, in 1597? The Italians fell in love with this music and it is still very popular today. You will find opera companies performing in every corner of Italy. Here are just a few of the places you can enjoy opera while staying there:

The home of opera – Florence

The very first ever opera, Dafne, was performed in Florence. So, it is not really surprising to learn that this city has a thriving opera scene. The city has a modern opera house that opened in 2011. But, several of the older theatres like the Teatro Della Pergola, Teatro Niccolini, Teatro Verdi and the Teatro Goldoni also put on regular performances.

Opera in Lucca

The composer Puccini was born in Lucca. The 19th century Teatro Del Giglio is a popular venue. But, local churches and other smaller venues also host performances his work, as well as that of other composers.

Every July and August the Puccini opera festival is held. During that time there are nightly performances, some of which are held outside.

Outdoor performances in Rome

Rome has a thriving opera scene too, of course. The capital has its own opera house and several theatres where you can enjoy memorable performances. During the warmer months, many of the city’s opera companies move outside. You can find everything from full-scale performances of the major operas to groups of two or three singing the most popular arias in small churchyards.

Opera in Sorrento

The opera scene in Sorrento is small, but growing. Currently, it consists mainly of intimate performances held in beautiful and unusual locations like the Correale Museum of Terranova. But, every year, the city hosts a training program for musicians and singers. It is called La Musica Lirica. This event has now become a music festival. Each season, a cast of around 70 perform three or four operas. The performers are young and for many these are their first major productions. But, the standard of performance is still high. One day, many of the performers you enjoy will be world famous.

The above is just a taste of the places you can enjoy opera while staying in Italy. Torre Del Largo and Venice are two other examples. So, the next time you book yourself an Italian vacation why not take the time to see if you can enjoy an opera, one night. You will be surprised by how often you can.
