London Hilton on Park Lane: A Leader of British Hospitality Since 1963

The Five-star Mayfair Hotel turns back the clock to celebrate 55-years of iconic heritage

A true icon for British hospitality, London Hilton on Park Lane celebrated an admirable legacy this Spring when the hotel marked its 55th Anniversary by hosting a spectacular 60s themed party. Famous for throwing unforgettable events and notable gala-evenings with guests from Nobel Peace Prize winner the Dalai Lama to boxing legend Muhammad Ali, the team at YCB were of course overly excited to attend this fabulous Sixties party.

When London Hilton Park Lane this April marked its 55th anniversary, it was certainly no better time to praise its admirable legacy and continuous success by throwing a party for the books! What better way to celebrate years of success by going all in, doing a great throwback: a dress code welcoming all things glitz and glam, festive music with a band on location playing true oldies, spectacular decoration, sparkle and champagne cocktails all in the spirit of the 1960s.

Together with honorary guests and prominent industry people, we were invited to join the hard working men and women of the Hilton team to raise a glass in celebration. Putting on our best A‑line dresses, mini skirts and chandelier earrings for a dose of sparkle, we made our way to the hotels Polynesian restaurant, Traders Vic, to join in on the festivities.

Greeted with tropical martinis at the door by a friendly girl in a checked black and white dress who was all smiles, we immediately felt right at home in the 60s! After having enjoyed an impressive Tiki-inspired buffet and a couple of delicious umbrella drinks to put us in the festive mood, the imminent pasty team unveiled the awaited jewel of the anniversary: THE CAKE! And what a cake it was… Saving in on nothing, the team presented an almost meter-high cake designed as a miniature model of the hotel. Written in white frosting (omg yes, more frosting always!), the number 55 was stated on the blue and golden facade of the cake-building, leaving no doubt what we were here to celebrate. It was almost a bit sad taking that first bite of the masterpiece, but I must say the taste did certainly not disappoint.

The five star Mayfair hotel has set the pace for contemporary hotel-keeping and hospitality in the city during the last 50 years, by that attracting people from all over the world. Over the years London Hilton on Park Lane has not only been the go-to-place for the many business icons and people working in the city. It has also been the location for extraordinary award dinners and gala evening. Hosting charity events such as The Red Cross Ball and Lord Taverners Gala, the hotel has welcomed Royal family members including Princess Diana, Princess Anne, Prince Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Also, simultaneously as hosting their very own Birthday party, prominent politicians and world leaders were accommodated at the hotel, for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting. This, I wished I would’ve known when I was impatiently waiting in the bathroom line to do a touch up on my makeup.

During the evening, the General Manager Michael Shepard held an inspirational speech, where he emphasized Hiltons continuous strive to offer the very best in a fast moving industry. These values did not only become apparent during the evening, with an outstanding venue and the magnificent cake, but are ideals that constantly shape the business.

“Although we can look back on an amazing wealth of history, we stand ever tall but never still. We look forward to creating more innovative, show-stopping, first class events and conferences at the London Hilton on Park Lane for many years to come.
