Top Five Things to do in Exeter

Every year, thousands of students flock to Exeter in Devon as they start the next chapter of their lives. Exeter University has students come from over 130 different countries, with lots of them trying to find their way around a new city. It can be quite overwhelming, so we’ve decided to bring together our top recommendations to get you started.

1. The Fat Pig Brewery

The Fat Pig Brewery is a great place to check out if you’re interested in local food and home-crafted beer, vodka and gin. Not only do they have a microbrewery, but they also have a distillery inside and a bar in which you can enjoy the products. The alcohol here is very experimental and its somewhere that you should definitely give a go.

2. Bill Douglas Cinema Museum

If you’re interested in cinema and film memorabilia, the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum is the must-see attraction for you. It’s open 7 days a week and holds over 75,000 items that relate to cinema in Britain. They have lots of collections including one which has over 1000 items of Charlie Chaplin memorabilia!

3. Exeter Quayside

If you’re interested in getting out and about in Exeter while the weather is good, we recommend that you visit the Exeter Quayside. It is located only a 15 minute walk from the city centre and boasts great architecture and lots of pubs with great views. Its great to talk a walk around but there are also boat tours if you are wanting something a bit different.

4. Sports

If you’re into sports, Exeter has plenty of activities for you to get involved in. Exeter is also home to the Exeter Racecourse where you can spend the day and maybe make yourself some money. Rugby fans can go watch the premiership team, Exeter Chiefs and there is also Exeter City FC for football fans!

5. Go Ape

Finally, if you’re feeling adventurous you could try Go Ape, Haldon. They’re open from February to November and offer zip wires and high ropes courses. When you’re up that high you can also take in the beautiful scenery of Exeter so its definitely worth a trip.
