5 sure-fire ways to de-stress & unwind

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly dashing from here to there, replying to emails, hurrying to meetings and rarely finding the time to simply relax? Technology has made it even harder for us to switch off, whether that be from work life, or even just putting down the phone and zoning out from social media for an evening. We find ourselves constantly plugged in, and it’s not all that good for our health. Studies have proven that our increased use of social media can cause stress, fatigue, emotion suppression and a lack of attention span. Let’s face it, how long can you actually work for without a quick stroll through Instagram? Because, we simply NEED to know what’s happened in the previous 27 minutes. Obviously.

So it’s time to chill out, de-stress and rid that negative tension in your shoulders. Whilst we all de-stress in different ways, check out these top tips to unwind and say goodbye to the stress…

ways to relax after work

Book in for Acupuncture

Have you ever tried acupuncture? It can actually provide much more than you may think. Studies have suggested that acupuncture sessions can reduce stress levels through the stimulation of the nervous system, thus causing the release of neurochemical messenger molecules. This triggers biochemical changes within the body, promoting both physical and emotional well-being. It’s also handy for any aches and pains you may have, for example, a sore neck from looking down at your phone too often!

Where? Londoners, we recommend booking in with Dr Michael Curtin, not only a qualified acupuncturist but a medical doctor with over 28 years’ experience in General Practice. Dr Curtin is available at his practice on Harley Street.

Bounce the Tension Away

So this is one for the active folk out there, can’t stand sitting still? Want to release the stress in a fun and energetic way? Then you NEED to take yourself to a trampoline park. Yes, these places exist and no they aren’t *just* for kids. Exercise is a great way to de-stress, releasing endorphins into your body, boosting your feel-good factor. It’s also a super fun way to spend a few hours, so grab a few pals and bounce until your heart is content.

Where? There are various trampoline centres throughout the country but if you’re London based then be sure to head down to Oxygen Free Jumping, they also run fitness classes too!

Go for a Hike

A long walk is sometimes the best way to clear your head! Try and head somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city and into nature. Why not make a weekend of it? Grab your partner or your bestie for a weekend of walking, eating and drinking. What could be better? There are lots of stunning locations in the UK to choose from with breath-taking views and trails to enjoy. It would be rude not to.

Where? The Lake District is always one of our top choices, The Gilpin Hotel & Lake House offers luxurious interior design, extensive facilities and top notch cuisine.

Enjoy a Luxury Spa Day

For pure pampering and bliss, nothing beats a day at the spa with your BFF. Enjoy a relaxing hot stone massage to ease the knots in your back, soak up the aromatherapy oils in the steam room, and finish your day off in the Jacuzzi. Sounds heavenly doesn’t it? Leave your phone in the locker and enjoy your peaceful surroundings. Why not treat yourself to a manicure too?!

Where? Whilst there are tonnes of worthy spas in London, if you want to escape the city fumes then why not head down to Cornwall for a breath of fresh sea air? The Scarlet Hotel is a luxury retreat offering stunning facilities and breath-taking Cliffside views.

A Netflix Marathon

Don’t fancy splashing out? Netflix has your back. Discover a new boxset, whip up a few snacks and resist temptation to live tweet your thoughts. It’s the easiest way to unwind, and it’s in the comfort of your own home!

Where? A sofa or bed is preferable.
