Signs of Success for the Modern Woman

Signs of success for the modern woman

We’ve all been there. That friend you so love to hate? She’s just bought herself a pair of gorgeous new Louboutins ‘just cos’, clocked over 300 likes for her latest champagne break-fie on Instagram (does she even work?), and is now bragging about her upcoming jaunt to Paris with her beau.

In contrast, you just ate cereal for dinner, spent your month’s rent on an obligatory underwear spree (underwear is a human right!), and have absolutely zero exciting trips planned. You may feel down in the dumps, but in the modern era there are a huge number of factors that denote how successful you actually are, and you know what? Instagram likes aren’t even close.

Based on the latest study commissioned by House of Fraser of over 2000 women, an impressive 87% of women in the UK would describe themselves as successful, proving that success comes in all shapes and sizes. Many even specify that 25 is the age at which they really started to feel like a success (so don’t worry if you’re in your early twenties, in a few years, you’ll be a career goddess!).

Signs of success for the modern woman

So what are the signs? What does it take to have ‘made it’ in modern society? The following factors were judged as the top signs of success for the modern woman:

Financial independence.

The study revealed that an overwhelming 78% of women between the ages of 18 and 25 would see being financially independent as a sign of success. What’s more? Their golden number was an annual salary of 49k. If that sounds familiar, you’re already crushing it! If not? Here’s how to negotiate a better package!

Happiness.

Happiness was judged by 70% of women as a key indicator of success. We think that success and happiness are intrinsically linked: if you’re happy, you’re more likely to have that go-getter attitude that employers adore, and if you’re doing well in your career, other areas of your life will benefit too! This study confirms that happiness is a core component of success, so always aim for things that make you happy!

Being trusted by your friends.

Having a girl squad that you absolutely love, with friends who trust you and have your back (particularly when you’ve hit the tequila a bit too hard) was also judged a key component of success. Here at YCB, we are in total agreement. In our book, good friends are the key to an Oprah-esque existence, if not life itself. If you’re ever in doubt, just look at Taylor and her clan!

Being organised and efficient.

I may be a stationery enthusiast, but a killer notebook is actually the key to being a girl-boss. An organised and efficient lady who is on the top of her game is by nature a successful one (in fact, I think that we were biologically programmed to find clipboards sexy!). So if you’re in love with categorising, don’t you worry- the more colour coded your agenda, the better!

Having a partner who is devoted to you.

Love really does make the world go round, and this study has confirmed our suspicions: success is all about living a life you’re happy with, and sharing it with someone you love. So don’t worry if it’s not all under control- if you have love in your life (whether that’s for someone else, or yourself!), everything will be A-okay.
