The Great Gatsby To Open The 66th Cannes Film Festival

Things are heating up in the South of France and here at Your Coffee Break, we can’t wait to attend the 66th Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from May 15th – 26th on the beautiful backdrop of the French Riviera. We’re looking forward to a festive celebration of film artistry and creative genius, along with a star-studded quest list and elegant gowns.

From big budget films, to quirky, artsy independent films, Cannes Film Fest is a platform for both upcoming and already established directors, producers, actors/actresses and creative teams to showcase their amazing work, gain recognition and have their achievements celebrated by highly respected members of the film community.

One of the most influential figures in the field, American director and producer Steven Spielberg, the visionary behind Transformers, will be the President of this year’s Cannes Film Festival jury, while French actress Audrey Tautou, who starred as the legendary Gabrielle Chanel in the film Coco Before Chanel will be hosting the opening and closing ceremonies.

With films such as Midnight in Paris and Moonrise Kingdom having premiered at previous Cannes Festivals, Cannes is where some of the most timeless films have debuted. And in the running for this year’s fest are some incredible, high budget contenders. Based on true events, Sofia Cappola’s new movie The Bling Ring, starring Emma Watson, follows a group of fame-obsessed teenagers who use the internet to track celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes. But what we all have been waiting for is the much anticipated Hollywood remake of Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s best seller ‘The Great Gatsby’ directed by Baz Lurhmann and produced by Warner Bros, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Toby Maguire, which will be the opening film of this year’s Cannes Film Festival in the Grand Théâtre Lumière of the Palais des Festivals.
