The Red Carpet Was Rolled Out For Hollywood Royalty At The Annual Met Ball

The red carpet was rolled out for Hollywood royalty at the annual Met Ball

A-Listers arrived in mass last night for the Met Gala hosted by Anna Wintour in New York

Known as the Oscars of the fashion world the annual Met Gala is one of the biggest red carpet events of the year. This year’s theme was ‘white tie and decorations’ and with white being this season’s colour, Posh and Becks, Rihanna and Jay-Z  were all sporting white numbers on the night.

Many celebrities clearly felt it their duty to pay homage to the Met Museum’s newly renovated Costume Institute by attending the event dressed as characters from by-gone eras. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were channelling Victorian chic and Katie Holmes worked a Disney’s Belle meets Little House On The Prairie look.

Yes we know that the gala’s featured designer, Charles James, is he of the voluminous ball gown, but we worry that too-many-a-celeb ran with this idea at the expense of actually looking good. We almost lost SJP, Zoe Saldana and Sandra Lee in an overwhelming sea of ruffles, layers and puffball skirts. They could perhaps have lent a little of their extra material to cheeky flesh-flashers Kim Kardashian and Rita Ora.

The women who stole the night were those who sidestepped the decorations/costume-inspired/voluminous gown landmine, opting instead for dresses they knew would flatter their figures. Gossip Girl Blake Lively gave everyone something to talk about in a phenomenal Gucci gown, Selena Gomez worked understated elegance in Diane Von Furstenberg and a matching lip, whilst Victoria Beckham proved that the person who knows your figure best is you, as she stepped out in one of her own sleek designs.

Designer Stella McCartney dressed a number of stars on the night. Reese Witherspoon, Kate Bosworth, Rihanna and Cara Delevigne all walked the red carpet in her slinky, feminine numbers. The collarbone was the hottest accessory of the night as Rachel McAdams, Anne Hathaway, Kendall Jenner, Toni Garrn and Anna Kendrick all went strapless in simple floor length gowns. Major bombshell status was achieved by Dita Von Teese and Alicia Quarles who both wore nipped in waists and fish tail trains by Zac Posen.

The Met Gala red carpet was rolled out for the ultimate A-List appearance…
