Spring fashion trends you can wear in the office

After much anticipation, spring has arrived which means we can finally start wearing all the great fashion trends we’ve been reading about whilst shivering by the fireside during this rough winter. But it’s always hard to determine which runway trends can be carried over into the office and which trends actually look professional? Luckily for Your Coffee Break’s stylish readers, we’ve done the research and come up with the 5 spring fashion trends that will be perfectly at home in the office.

Pastels

Nothing says spring like a beautiful pop of pastel. The SS14 runways were replete with gorgeous looks in shades of sugared almonds and thanks to Christopher Bailey’s saccharine lace pencil skirts at Burberry, the trend is perfect for a softer work look. Pair a beautiful pastel pleated skirt with a simple black sweater or ivory silk blouse for a feminine yet sleek ensemble.

The new power suit

Good news ladies. There is a new power suit in town and it is making major waves. Suits have been taking a softer look over the past few seasons but this season’s is heavily influenced by menswear, with stronger shoulders and cuts, natty weaves and textures. Pair it with a softer blouse or a killer pair of heels in a bright hue to add the perfect dose of womanly charm.

The shirt dress

This is such an easy look to attain. It was seen all over the SS14 shows including BCBG Max Azria, Donna Karan, Balenciaga and Band of Outsiders. As Lucky Magazine Editor in Chief, Eva Chen told Good Morning America, “The shirt dress is tomboyish and sexy at the same time. It’s clean, chic, universally flattering and versatile. Keep it classic for work. Belted at the waist and worn with heels.” Sound advice from one of Manhattans most stylish women.

Flounce hem skirt

It girl Kate Upton is a big fan of this new skirt trend. Wear it in a bold hue or just go for simple black paired with a crisp white blouse. These skirts tend to look better with heels so if you’re rocking this look, put those flats away for a super, fun feminine look.

Loose trousers

Goodbye skinny jeans. Let those calves breathe after all those years in the trouser shape of the season; palazzo pants. They are elegant (if you get them properly tailored), smart and perfect for the office.
