Best Dressed celebrities at the Met Gala 2016
Every year the lead up to the annual Met Gala has all fashion lovers eagerly refreshing their laptops screens, checking their social media and waiting in anticipation for arguably the most elegant night in the fashion calendar. The prestigious charity event held in New York City, is often called ‘the party of the year’ and has also acquired the label of ‘the Oscars of the East Coast’.
At YCB we loved scoping out the latest red carpet looks, and the Met Gala is no different. Each year is themed, coordinating with the beautiful exhibition inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which always leads to unexpected and incredibly unique looks. This year was no different, for 2016, the theme was ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’, so there was no shortage in weird and wonderful looks.
Here are just a few of the looks that we loved at this year’s Gala:
Kristen Stewart always has a unique look, and this year was no exception. She channelled a glamorous punk look with ready to wear Chanel from the Fall collection. The sparkly number was off set against her bold silver eye makeup and bleached hair, full of knots and braids.
We love Lily-Rose Depp, almost as much as Johnny, it is clear that that family has good genes! Lily-Rose made her Met Gala debut in a plunging Chanel Haute Couture dress, paired with a matching bomber jacket draped over her shoulders, the chic way to transition into the spring summer months. With her signature 90s makeup, we can’t wait to see more of her over the next few years.
Gigi Hadid consistently looks flawless, from catwalk to the streets and now to the Met Gala. An obvious nod to the techno theme, Gigi accessorised her Tommy Hilfiger gown with metal rings, a metallic and crystal manicure (a pricey one at a reported $2,000) and a glittery stripe down the parting of her slicked back hair.
Chic as ever, Oscar winner, Alicia Vikander looked the part in Louis Vuitton and was even escorted by their creative director, Nicolas Ghesquiere. The gold and red dress was paired with statement boots and simple makeup, with a gorgeous high ponytail, incorporating braids. Alicia is always a YCB fashion favourite!
Our fashionable favourite of the Kardashian-Jenner crew, Kendall Jenner looked phenomenal as always. The Atelier Versace dress had large cut outs which made Kendall’s slender frame look even slimmer if that’s possible. Kendall paired it with a slicked back by voluminous high pony tail, like her bestie Gigi and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.
