It’s officially Cannes Film Festival – where the rich and famous descend upon the glitzy French seaside town to promote both blockbuster and independent films. We’ve all been waiting with baited breath for The Great Gatsby premiere and its stars brought all the art-deco glamour you’d expect.
However, it was Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor who really caught our eye. Dressed in a voluminous Dolce & Gabbana ball gown, the floral print made an elegant statement in a sea of nudes and beiges. The strapless cut stopped the dress from overpowering her tiny frame, while the 7/8th length showed of a flash of ankle and matching floral heels.
An exaggerated shape like this works equally as well for the sidewalk as the catwalk. Look for shorter, less structured styles that play up your pins, rather than you décolletage. Scour vintage stores to find cute retro frocks for girly nights with your friends. Classic peep-toe pumps in a neutral shade will help to streamline your shape, or give it a modern spin with slicked back hair (à la Nicole Kidman).
